http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/watford-line-up-alessandro-del-1146750 Has been linked to the Hornets alongside Inzaghi. Can you imagine players of this status and calibre coming up against the likes of Barnsley and Huddersfield? Football has gone made! At least this 'optimistic' transfer strategy employed by Zola/your new owner shows a shred of ambition unlike at Leeds.
Rumour is one thing, I think I will rather wait for the substance. But IF one of them signed, it would be absolutely incredible. It would mean so much to the players on the training field, and at Championship level both definitely have something to offer. But I'm not getting too excited....yet.
what emiatss said. There are now so many rumours about so many top Italian players it's all gone a bit crazy. Best thing is to sit back and enjoy the ride, and see who we've got come September.
It seems too good to be true. It's possible..... you can't rule it out entirely, but I do really wonder if Zola is enough of a pull. We're not a massive club, we don't have a lot of money.... so I don't see it. I could see Del Piero or Inzaghi going to bigger clubs and earning more money elsewhere, especially abroad in places like the US or Middle East.
All the top Italian football players who are rumoured for Watford will ruin Cardiff City and Reading as they try to step into the move to mess them up.
I can't see either of these happening really. I'd suggest that they haven't had too many offers since becoming free agents, so with our new Italian conenctions we are an obvious link to create interest in their players. If Reading offering Inzaghi a contract is true, looks like it might have already worked for one of them! Saying that, either or both would be amazing signings. Just what they would give on the training pitch would be immense, and still think either could do a job in the Championship, as long as they are surrounded by the right people!
I am not as excited as everyone else seems to be. When a player is in the twilight of his career then his fitness levels are usually dropping very quickly, and it seems to me that if you cannot run as fast or react as quickly as the opposition, then it doesn't matter what you did with the ball in the past, you can't do it nearly as well now. We had one example last season and there have been others in the past. We shouldn't get excited about getting a player with declining skills. Also they will probably want a lot of money as they have been used to earning pots of dosh. And also their drive and motivation is receeding. When I was eighteen I was not too bad a bowler and got somebody out. As the incoming batsman walked to the wicket, the non-striking batter whispered in my ear that the new batter had played for England. I bowled him second ball but by then I found out he was 70 years old. Bit of an extreme case, but it illustrates my piont.
I can't see it happening purely because it doesn't seem to fit in with the strategy of the owners at all. They want to develop players from our academy (apparently what attracted them about Watford) and sell them on, as well as buying players cheaply elsewhere and selling them for a profit. This means loaning players our between Watford, Udinese and Granada. Buying old Italians does not fit into this at all. There will be no value when we come to sell them (or release them) and they are likely to demand high wages (and the Pozzos are running this as a business). The only slight positive is that they may be able to entice some younger players to sign with us, or help us get promoted in the short-term to increase revenues. It seems to me lazy journos just link Italian players to a club owned and managed by Italians without any knowledge of what the club's strategy is.
Zola is Italian and is at Watford+ Del Piero is Italian and is looking for a club= Del Piero is going to Watford.
Well he is younger than Kevin Phillips - who many appear to think could 'still do a job' for us. So, why not?
Before long we're going to be linked with Gianni Rivera and Roberto Bettega. I don't think this is good - it has Vialli mark 2 written all over it. Still, nothing's happened yet so let's wait and see.
ambition and leeds got divorced a long time ago. While Doyley and Watford are a happily married couple
I usually get laughed away with my Leeds-Watford predictions, but I'd be really shocked if they show more ambition than us this transfer window. Bringing in old faces with big names like Bellamy at Cardiff, Sol Campbell at Notts and Edgar Davids at Palace hasn't tended to work out in the lower leagues. As it stands, we've signed Drury (came with great reviews from Norwich), Pearce (same from Pompey), Green (mixed from Derby), and Kenny (proven promotion keeper at this level). Watford have got Kuszczak and a kid from Fulham. Both clubs have lost big players. Future looks brighter for us though, as you'd expect for a bigger club who naturally generate more revenue and pull factor.
No we don't, they were loanees. Kuszczak is at Brighton and the "kid" was recalled to Fulham and started playing first team. He was probably as good as Snodgrass tbh. So yeah, we haven't signed anyone yet (officially). But the takeover just happened, the players will start rolling in soon.
No we don't - you're half a season behind, do keep up. Oh, hang on - you're a Leeds fan. Explains it all really.
My apologies, I'll explain what I did wrong. I searched for Watford transfers 2012, but there was little by way of factual lists and just a lot of Sky Sports links and forum posts which offered little help. Then I saw a Wikipedia page - English football transfers summer 2012 - which I clicked on and did a Ctrl + F search for Watford. Where I went wrong is not realizing that the page title was misleading and they actually have transfers on there from as early as February/March. I apologize again with the utmost profuseness. Regardless of that hiccup, my point is actually strengthened by the fact you've signed no-one yet.
I don't think you can credibly claim that until you get promoted and stay up. Even then, relegation from the Premier League would forever be a possibility, and if it happens would hit Leeds a lot harder than Watford. By the way, in the last seven years I think you've done better than us once. EDIT: Also worth pointing out that we're being run by people who have taken a small club into Serie A and the Champions League, and taken a second small club into La Liga. No-one seriously thinks Watford will do better than Udinese, but I'm not convinced that Leeds can overhaul the top six or so either.
As you have trouble researching, watch the press for the names Abdi, Pudil and Vydra - all international players - and Hall (from QPR).
I'm assuming much of jerel's (Didn't he used to play for Watford?) post is a wind up - the whole 'Leeds are considerably bigger than you, so therefore we are much better' mantra! Maybe he is just jealous we have been linked with them, and they are signing Kenny and Varney! Yes we have been linked with some big names, but I don't expect them to come. Their agents are simply trying to create interest in their players. If rumours of Inzaghi to Reading and Iaquinta to Fulham are true, then it may have worked! We expect the likes Abdi, Pudil and Vydra to come in on loan, and the odd freebie like Hall to sign on a free. I would asume we have a bit of cash to play with as well if the right player comes along - expect young players who we can develop and sell on for a profit. As for Leeds - unless you are taken over, I can see your 'ambition' being not much more than a freebie here and there, one or two £250k signings, then the sale of Snodgrass once somone stumps up enought to satisfy Papa Smurf
