Players like Neil, growing up, must've dreamed of putting balls through for players like Defoe ...

... now it's a reality and that must enthuse him.

Even the much criticised Gooch will know there'll be an outlet if he goes past the full back. Gooch is frustrating but, all too often, he beats a man and has to check back because there's no one in the box. If he just throws it in people moan that his crosses are poor.

Pritchard will be busting a gut to be fit and persuade the coaches he can fit into a system with Stewart and Defoe <laugh>

This is going to be fun, whatever happens.

Will be huge on and off the pitch, much more so than Keane imo., and hopefully a catalyst to see us have a really good shot at getting into the Championship, its all to play for, OaU

TBH I wasn't particulatly overawed when I heard that JD had signed for us again. Being old fashioned Ive always gone with the theory 'its never as good 2nd time round'

But having thought about it, although his sharpnes may not be as good, I agree he will be an asset in the dressing room and someone who the players can aspire too

I think we lacked this throughout LJs tenure.

I am pleased with this signing

I was similar to @Jack Ford re Defoe. But I felt completely compelled to keep an eye on the SAFC site as something inside was excited!!

Strange feeling but I’m very happy he’s signed.

Sunderland don't have a captain worthy of the name and haven't for years.

We need someone, on the pitch, capable of saying WTF?

Defoe, despite his size, would command the respect needed to be that man.

Even at training no one will want a withering glare from the man.

I was a bit underwhelmed by it too. Then I watched the video and I'm definitely happy he's back. I'm hoping there will be a similar Keane video.
