Jermain Defoe has returned home from the England squad base in Poland this morning after receiving the sad news of the passing away of his father overnight. Everyone at the Club sends their sincere condolences to Jermain and his family. Jermain will re-join the England squad in due course and no replacement player will be called in. http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/News/jermain-defoe-07062012.page? ------------------------- Bloody hell, poor chap. Wish him and his family all the best at this sad time.
Only 49, but sadly struggled with addictions and alcohol abuse. Must have been very hard on JD seeing your father going through all that. My condolences to him and his family.
At least his father saw his success and knew his son and probably his family were set for life. But very sad at such a young age.
I wouldn't blame Defoe if he decides not to return now, somethings are much more important than football and this is one of them. R.I.P
Sad news to end a bit of a rough year for him. Out of the side and bashed in the press for his personal life. Only a few years since his brother was murdered, too. I think he'll look to the Euros as a bit of an escape from it all and try to prove a point to people. Hope it goes well for him. EDIT: Just seen the circumstances and cause. Apparently they were aware that it may happen during the tournament and that he'd been battling throat cancer for some time.
very sad....makes me think..when someone in your family is suffering from something so bad be it the addictions or the cancer then it is bound to affect you on the pitch..it has to...and that can go some way in explaining some of his performances for us. as someone above pointed out...football does come second and i hope Defoe and his family can recover from this. god bless.
