Also on the bbc sport site Jermaine defoe might go to Blackburn with Chris samba coming to us,would that be a good or not good deal for us?.
Defoe should be moved on as he has had his time with us, dangerous player and was for me at his best in games when brought on with 75 mins played as that is when defenders make most mistakes and a player like Defoe would take advantage so while he would be great to keep, he clearly rates himself higher then a supersub. Samba is decent but not top four quality of my opinion and not better then gallas or dawson so not keen.
Not sure Defoe would be happy to go to Blackburn but if so and they give us samba and a couple of million, I'll be happy.
I'd add Kaboul to that list as well. How old is Samba, he seems to have been around forever and looks about 50.
Sort the front line first, then look at it after not before, I think there is still is a good season or to from both pav and defoe.
I would agree with Chirpy and Luke. He's the best we currently have. He had a poor season, but that was as much down to the way he was used, as anything.
No pace at all upfront without Defoe, and why Samba, to add to the 3 above, he's no better than Bassong either. You'd think the player at the age he is would rather a game every week where he is, than sitting on our bench for half a season or more. As you can see, I've completely dismissed the notion he'd be 1st choice.
Defoe would obviously be a better option than Notso- he would be the star attraction up there. Blackburn have obviously cooled their interest in Keane now they know that the asking price doesn't match what they would be getting.
I don't think we necessarily need pace up front, Smart. Defoe's pace is hardly any use anyway as he usually gets himself offside. I think Samba would be a good signing, he's very disciplined which I think is what Dawson needs to play alongside. Dawson and Kaboul were a bit of a nightmare when they were our centreback pairing last season and whilst I'm happy for either of them to play at centre back, I think trying to get them to work together again could prevent us from getting back into the top 4.
Sorry Schteff imo, we desperately need pace up front as an option, whats the point of Bale and Lennon breaking quickly when no-one can keep up, time and time again I've seen them have to check back. When I said without JD, I meant look at the alternative, Pav Crouch Keane, its not just slow, its decrepidly slow.
Smalling's only been there a year. King's hardly got the legs he used to, ditto Gallas and Samba isn't the slowest.
So why wasn't Defoe our most effective striker last season? If you look at the way we built up our attacks last season the majority didn't go straight out to the wings. I'd definitely like to have a striker with a good change of pace but I don't think it's essential and neither is keeping Defoe.
