I think so Bent did score loads but did miss shed-loads, Gyan wasn't with us long enough to put in the same bracket, however he had bags of potential. At the minute Defoe is scoring in critical games, I wouldn't put it past him scoring at Spurs on Saturday regardless of the score line.

Bent for me. He scored nearly twice as many as Defoe when both in their prime - around 2010. And when you consider how many Bent missed, it just shows how good he was at getting into position! But who cares - Jermain's delivering the goods now and I won't take anything away from him for that.

Got to look at the teams around each of them IMO.

Phillips wouldn't have scored as many without Quinny etc etc.

Bent was scoring in a good mid table team, Defoe is scoring in a relegation zone team.

DeFoe was always picked ahead of Bent for Spurs and England in there prime. Says it all really. Defoe can create his own chances in and around the box , I'd say he is the better footballer, Bent was a poacher full stop.

A good mid-table team? We hit tenth place once, and that was only because Newcastle let in two late goals in the last game of the season! Apart from that, we never got out of the bottom six. Bent kept us up. Hopefully, Defoe can equal that.

Defoe's your best goalscorer since Phillips for sure, he should be bagging 20 this season easy. For a team in a relegation scrap that's priceless.

Bent wasn't the natural finisher that Defoe is, he had a hot season here and there but relied heavily on good service, Defoe often makes his own luck, such as your goal against Palace. He's a natural hunter for goals.

One of my best times watching Spurs , Berbatov+Keane with Defoe and Bent as subs
One season over 100 goals for/against at WHL league and cup games
    Rate Defoe more then Bent

Bent had more than a hot season here and there. Have a look at his record when consistently playing games. Wherever he has been, he's scored heaps of goals.

Hot season, here and there. Two hot seasons where he scored over 20 goals.

You sure you want to start following me around on these boards again? Don't you ****ing dare play dumb.

It's got ridiculous now mate, he'll wade back in playing the dumb ****. I don't have time this time around, if he agrees to keep away from me I'll do him the same favour. Same deal as Relic gets.

I'm suspicious of every 'new' poster now <laugh>

Back to the OP. I always rated Defoe over Bent, before we signed Bent. Now that I have seen them both play for Sunderland, it is Defoe who is the better player and finisher, quite comfortably...

I'm waiting for Tel to get some back lash, thought it was going to happen on the Catts thread. I'm not convinced so far but I'm watching and waiting.

Think I'd go with Defoe. he's not an aped face, under bite, Judas **** who ****ed the bosses missus causing disharmony in the dressing room which triggered a series of changes which saw pretty good squad dissolved to make way Ji and ****ing Wickham! And breathe. Defoe for me.
