So we missed out on Darren Bent and Bafetimbi Gomis. While I was an advocate in signing a proven goalscorer such as Bent, he hasn't exactly hit the ground running at Fulham, so perhaps that was a bullet dodged.

However, how about we go in for a player that has proven he hasn't lost his sharpness and finishing ability? I speak of Jermaine Defoe, a man who has repeatedly reminded the media that he needs to be playing in the Premier League in this World Cup year.

I don't particularly rate Roberto Soldado and expect him to be a flop, but I think AVB's stubbornness will see him as the no.1 striker until the end of the season (can't be admitting to have wasted 30 million). So, how about we go in with a bid of around 6.5 million for Defoe in January?

For a 30 year old, that's decent enough money, and he is a better player than Cisse.

He'll be looking for a last big pay day and he'll be wanting more than we're likely to offer him.

Agree with AB but I still think he can do the business in The Prem.

Would have him here all day long but he would never come here and we wouldn't be willing to pay his sort of wages for a 30 year old.

Just a non starter all round - 30yr old, wages, Spurs not likely to sell, and he'd get a nose bleed this far north

The cleaner, fresher air would be a tonic for him, and help him up his game if anything.

He is mint but wont ever happen. Spurs would be mad to let him go if you ask me. Finishing wise there is almost no one better in the prem. I have always rated him.

He will definitely want to leave in Jan to be able to go to the WC, so we might be able to get him. Would be a quality signing as well...

Jordan Rhodes and a strong forward, we really missed out on Libor Kozak and Adam Szalai this summer.

Both would of strengthened us well.

I like Rhodes a lot. I also think we should sign Britt Assombalonga because he has a funny name.
