http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...o-boost-England-World-Cup-squad-ambition.html Seems we've missed out on the chance to pay Spurs £6m and Jermaine 'Thursday' Defoe £90 large a week........lucky escape methinks
Exactly what I was saying. We should only take him on a free for 1 year or 2. Anything more than that is just throwing money away. imagine what he will be like at 36 on 90k a week. You can see whats happened to Etoo at the scum. I think hes only 32 or 33 and already a shadow of his former self. Lukaku is already a better player at 18 or 19.
I'd rather spend that sort of dough on Jordan Rhodes and he'll never be a £90k/wk player Good luck to Defoe if he can get that sort of deal but lets be honest, where he's going is slipping off to a comfortable semi-retirement
Defoe will cost them £25m with no return if they get rid. Rhodes would cost say 10m plus 40k a week ~ 18m over 4 years plus the chance of making money when we sell him. The really galling thing is that would work still work out cheaper than SWP.
Cant see this being true. I cant believe Toronto have this kind of financial resource unless I have missed something. The MLS was never that popular even with Mr Beckham. If it is true then we have dodged a bullet as he clearly has no ambition and was looking for a final pay day especially as im sure there are plenty of Premiership teams that would want him or teams in Europe.
It's getting to be a bigger deal, to be honest. It'll never unseat the NFL or basketball, but now more kids are coming through college playing it, and the tv deals are making more money for the league, it's getting a lot more exposure. I think it could overtake baseball in the next 5-10 years as the third sport in the country - it's already on par with the NHL I think, if only because there's not much ice hockey in the south. Contracts are made centrally, with the league paying the players, and whilst most players are on league 1 money, each team is allowed 2 or three exempted players, players who fall outside the salary cap limitations. Thus, LA was able to sign Beckham, NeeYork was able to sign Henry, and now Toronto may be able to sign Defoe.
What? A proven consistent striker currently second in goals scored this season in the Championship whilst playing for the traincrash that is Blackburn? Nah you're right, lets stick with zamora or AJ when either are actually fit
