Yes he blocked his run otherwise he was in on goal. He brought his knee up to block Defoe. The ref had a clear view. Any top club would have got the pen.
Seen them given, would have been a dead cert outside the box. Officials had a mare in that game by the looks of it.
I've seen them given but it would have been harsh in my opinion. Unlike the Hull City ones which were nailed on..
I've looked at it a few times.if we were given it it would of been harsh on Spurs.although in the past we have given away pens with less contact.swings and roundabouts I think
Should have been given, it was more of a penalty that the Arsenal one yesterday but the ref and linesman should be sacked for the offside decision they gave at the end so the bad decisions evened out. The issue is, had we scored an early penalty the game would have been completely different and we may not have been chasing the game so the "offside" incident may not have happened
In the ref's defence, I'd say only the linesman needs sacked, the ref only responded to the linesman's flag. The referee for Newcastle vs Southampton needs sacked, staring straight at a handball and he pretends he didn't see it. Cost us 3rd place this weekend, the ref might as well have been Le Tiss in a mask. I'm sure you lot don't give a **** about that one to be fair though! Edit: We'd still be 4th but level on points with Koeman's Wonderstars.
Possibly a penalty, im not exactly upset that it wasn't given though! The way he went down looked a little suspicious which probably made the referees mind up!
If you look at the replay Terry, the ref was up with the two Spurs players and must have seen that they were both in their own half when the ball was played. He should have at least questioned the linesman, MotD showed the linesman speaking into his mouthpiece, apparently saying "the keepers out of his goal, only one Sunderland player in his half". If that is true, neither of them know the offside rule.
That wouldn't surprise me, although if I was a ref in the modern era, I'd not even be looking at offside/onside, I've got too many other things to do and I have two people telling me that anyhow. Maybe the 2nd ref or whatever he's called nowadays should have seen it. The fact is, there's a new 'farce' every weekend, yet the FA are more concerned with what managers are saying about the refs after matches than doing anything about it. With respect, if it was 1-1 when that got disallowed, there'd be all kinds of hell on, fortunately for the ref the 'goal' meant nothing to the result.
I agree mate, I understand the difficulty match officials have with all the Sky cameras looking at things from every angle, at times I think it would make it easier if there were just a couple of cameras on the halfway line like it used to be. However sometimes there is no excuse for them, our top referee at the time, Howard Webb, last season missed a deliberate handball (or should that be deliberately missed) against West Ham at our place, when Nolan elbowed the ball away from Fletcher in the box and Webb was about three yards away looking at the incident. Or when Webb gave a penalty against us the season before when Osman tripped over his own feet with no one near him. Some referees are incompetent, some have their strings pulled by managers, some are frightened to make a decision, but as John Carver said, their decisions could cost a manager their job.
at first i didn't think it was a penner. but on review he clearly rumbles vertonen with his flick and turn. It should have been given. defender over commits himself and takes him out. the fall was perhaps too theatrical for the ref. as for the linesman. has to be sacked for that ****e.
