Jermain Defoe is worried he may have to leave his beloved Tottenham if he endures another season as a bit-part player.

The striker was in and out of the side last season under former boss Harry Redknapp but still netted an impressive 17 times.

Yet, that hasn’t stopped Spurs’ new chief Andre Villas-Boas hunting for another hitman this summer with Emmanuel Adebayor’s permanent switch from Manchester City still a possibility, while Internacional forward Leandro Damiao has also been tracked.

Defoe has two years left on his current contract but is yet to sit down with Tottenham chiefs to talk about a new deal and with QPR, Sunderland and Reading thought to covet the marksman, he faces some tough decisions should he once more become more accustomed to the bench that the pitch.

The England international told The Mirror: “Everyone knows how much I love Tottenham. Everybody knows that they are the club I want to play for.

“But last season was heartbreaking for me in terms of putting my body on the line, being prepared to give everything for the club and not getting a game.”

He added: “Obviously I have to think seriously about my future. I will talk to the club and see what happens but right now all I want to do is what is best for Tottenham.”
