They've been called up for the friendly games against Eire and Brazil, which are to be played on May 29th and June 2nd. Congratulations to both of them. Not entirely sure that either has done enough to deserve a call up, though. Walker's probably done well enough to be in contention, but Defoe's barely playing. Full squad: Goalkeepers - Ben Foster, Joe Hart, Alex McCarthy. Defenders - Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones, Joleon Lescott, Kyle Walker. Midfielders - Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott. Forwards - Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Danny Welbeck.
had the same conversation with my mate yesterday. He's looked good this season and is definitely worthy of a place at a premiership club. hang on, Defoe and walker have been called up? er... How?!
Still amazes me how Lambert, the top scoring English striker this season, continues to get over looked. Lescott over Dawson/ Shawcross? Oxo-cube over Lennon? And how Walker and Defoe made the squad I'll never know. Roy Hodgson - Plank.
I think the Oxo over Lennon selection will become clearer after the season has finished, because Lennon is almost certainly going to need surgery. .
So we've offered up 6 to the squads so far and there's still one or two more to go, isn't there? U20s and U19s or U18s or something...
In the time since Chamberlain last started a game for Arsenal(mid March) Callum McManaman has started 10 scoring 3 and winning an FA Cup. I guess he's been chosen because they think he can play on the left though.
" I was forgetting Smith is in the under 21 squad. " He's not good enough to even get in the Spurs U21 squad
Looked good for Millwall until they lost all of their strikers. Still continued to impress for the England U21s. I wouldn't mind him being used as back-up/competition to Walker and Naughton moved on, though it might upset Walker and he hasn't really done much wrong. It's not his fault that he's not a left-back.
He's going to have a busy summer, given he's in the U21 squad. Peter Taylor has given a hint about a few of the U20s squad: Ross Barklay, John Lundstram, James Ward-Prowse, Nathan Redmond, Luke Williams, Adam Reach, Sam Byram.
Barkley was on the losing side in our U21 semi-final against Everton. We've been linked with Redmond in the past, but it was quite a while ago. Byram will probably join Norwich, as he plays for Leeds.
