Just seen this in the gossip column

Sunderland’s attempts to bring Tottenham Hotspur strikers Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane to the Stadium of Light have stalled after it appeared the strikers would not compromise on their wage demands.
Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce, has made no secret of his desire to land experienced strikers this summer and Defoe and Keane fit the bill perfectly. Both strikers are likely to be surplus to requirements this season and rumours continue to circulate that both are likely to be on their way out of White Hart Lane this summer.
And Harry Redknapp has further fuelled the speculation as he remains intent on capturing Sunderland’s Asamoah Gyan. The Ghanian striker was bought by the Black Cats last summer after his impressive World Cup form.
News that Gyan could be on his way out of Wearside is likely to be greeted with hostility by Sunderland fans as the club need to bolster their attacking options. Letting go of one of their best forwards would be seen as a step backwards, and rightly so.
A deal for Defoe and Keane is by no means dead in the water, however. Tottenham could be tempted to sell as they aim to raise funds to buy a prolific striker having been linked with Fabiano and Llorente in the past few months.
Sunderland have already been the busiest by far this summer. They have bought two strikers with Ji Dong-Won and Connor Wickham arriving at the Stadium of Light. Other areas have also been bolstered too as Brown and O’Shea completed moves from Manchester United last week.
It seems that the club have been spending the funds generated by Jordan Henderson’s transfer to Liverpool very wisely and their spending does not look set to end yet. But Keane and Defoe will both have to compromise on their wage demands if they are to leave Tottenham in favour of a move up north this summer.

Wouldn't mind Defoe (even tho he seems like a bit of a tit). Think he could easily hit 15 goal mark for us.

    Keane?? No thanks, dead legs!

    Probably just lazy journalism tho!

Lazy journalism-even if there is a grain of truth I wouldn't want Keane here full stop.I wouldn't mind Defoe as a straight buy.
Any deal which takes Asa away wouldn't be acceptable unless it was £20million plus and then only if we had replacements in place.

Not Keane again! <doh> We get linked with him every transfer window. He's well past his sell by date, but I would like to see Defoe arrive.

Also read on some dodgy Sunderland gossip page that we will sign Figueroa(sp!?) for £5m+Ferdinand. I know it's bullshit but would be quite happy if it was true!

Aye, Figueroa is another name that keeps cropping up from time to time. Yes, he is a genuine left back, but is he any better than Bardsley in the LB position? I don't think he is.

I know Ferdinand is not everyone's cup of tea, but he is a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back. I think he's worth keeping as a backup defender.

This story had to be written to make the transfer window official, never is until we are linked to Keane, always been that way, Schoals at the AoL will be next.

Love bardo, but would prefer a left footer in there. All teams know that bardo is going to cut back on to his right. Sure the strikers would prefer a decent early ball in to the box.

Agree with Ferdinand's versatility but we have brown & oshea for that now. Also he always seems prone to mistakes. Never feel comfortable when he is at the back.

Listen Rednap, Gyan is going nowhere and you and all your friends in the media can't change that!! Good to see everyone is finally catching on to spurs valuation policy and looking elsewhere. They can't buy unless they sell and at this rate they will not be buying, I wonder how long good ole loyal harry will hang around. As for Defoe and Keane! no to Keane and not bothered about Defoe if we could stay away from any dealings with spurs then I would be happy. Same goes for the Figueroa rumour for Ferdy plus £5m please!, straight swap maybe. If true wigan are getting as bad as spurs with their valuations of players.

Would love krankjar(sp?) & Hutton if spurs need to sell so badly. Maybe bid for modric too, but think colback would limit his opportunities!!

I wish someone at Sunderland would tell Redknapp to just **** right off.

Listen, Niall, employ me and I'll do it for free.

This bloke is a ****ing disgrace the way he uses the media to chase other clubs players illegally. He always gets round the tapping up bit by prefixing every interview with his immortal line......

"its not fair of me to comment on another clubs players but of course he is a player I very much admire and he is a smashing lad"........... blah! blah! blah!

Spurs are just a set of parasites. Do they actually employ scouts other than ones that watch Match of the Day and pick other clubs players out. Funny though, now their players are ****ing off left right and centre Arry is ****ting his Keck's for next season and he is panicking the likes of Bale and Modric dont fancy the Redknapp bullshit anymore.

****in bloke pisses me right off.

True Derry. Fookin stupid prices! Can't understand the spuds valuations?!?

It's obvious where we need to strenghten, but well chuffed with our signings so far like. Just can't wait for the season to start.

Don't know where I heard this (prob when I was pissed in London!!) but someone said that arry acid face is allegedly well connected with a lot of agents & when he shows an interest it pushes up prices for the agents players. Once the deal is done brown envelope arry gets a cut!

Prob ****e like but does make you think!!

We WERE after Keane for quite a few years when he was a tidy player, but after being turned down by him for quite a while, we ****ed him off. Now he's ****e, he would be desperate to come to us. Would we have him now? NOPE, too old, legs have gone, too expensive and to be honest not good enough for us. Defoe, for me not too fussed, I'd not be bothered if he came or not.

Just ****ing lazy journo's can't be arsed to do any research, they're all good old arry's 'he's a triffic player' redknapps mates, I can't believe someone from the FA hasn't had a word with him about his interview technique, which to be honest seems to be blatent tapping up. Like has been stated, teams are wise to Spurs transfer techniques now, and won't be held to ransom by them, quite pleased about this it, ****ing cockney wide boys.

The article seems to indicate Gyan is going nowhere and any deal would be us buying a player. I think Bruce and Quinn are playing this one smartly. They know there is a chance we could get Welbeck back on loan so they don't need to rush in with a bid for anyone. Spurs need to sell in order to buy so let them sweat it out. The Modric saga is going to drag on, if we wait it out we might get a cut price deal and if not then a loan for Welbeck will give us 4 fit strikers until Jan when either Campbell will be back or thee is the option to go back into the market.

Everyone knows what Spurs are like now so their going to have trouble shifting players on. They could end up as a mid table team again next season.
