I remember first going to Eastville as a teenager around 1972/73 and was instantly hooked. As time went on, I stood on the Tote with the 'big boys', proud to be part of it, joined in the singing but definitely not one of the hard nuts but was there nonetheless. I quickly learned the true supporter is there for the bad times just as much as the good ones and can recall standing on the terraces at Southampton, Oxford, Reading, Villa to name but a few and to be honest, cant remember us coming away with a win too often! We did the old Wembley, the Millenium, the new Wembley, beat City, lost to City, held our own at Anfield (bloody McManaman!) and even a couple of weeks ago against Mansfield, even though my head told me we were more than capable of cocking this up, my heart and my blind faith told me we would get the point we needed! I guess what this has taught me is that there is no cure for this constant optimism when you support your team and no matter how many years they put you through this kind of hell, you still come back for more and yes, I will be there in The Conference next season, hoping for the best, being prepared for many disappointments but still bring controlled by Blind Faith that they will be alright!
Welcome GreatWesternGas You are not alone with the blind faith. We are use to the lower leagues. Just a few seasons at championship level and now about to have our 1st season at non league league. So we are well use to being down the leagues yet we still turn up each week. We still wear our colours. It would be easier supporting 1 of the big clubs in the prem and get more joy watching them on TV and watching more wins than defeats. Would save a lot of money too sitting in our armchair instead of turning up each week watching Rovers. So why do we keep putting ourselves through it all? I just dont know. Maybe im a sucker for pain.
I will watch any old football and I would watch Rovers wherever they are. There aren't actually that many new teams to watch. I've seen quite a lot of them over the years!
Well said! It is in our blood. I am fairly cynical in normal life and probably don't have enough patience! But BRFC are the only thing (family aside) where however much they let me down I keep coming back for more. We will be around long after the shambles of the current board and playing staff have left our club.
We bloody well will be! It's my birthday today - I sincerely hope that I'll only see one, maximum two more, with the current shower in charge. I want them to get the stadium built and then sell up as soon as humanly possible. There's no escaping the fact that they've totally failed - we need someone with new ideas and a bit of cash to come in and rescue our football club.
Nah - but I did get a new Zimmer frame and someone changed my colostomy bag........................at last!
