One matter that came out of our pre-Christmas discussions was how do we all define success? Some of us regard survival as success, others clearly demand more. To get a general consensus on this Iâm putting up three polls, for this season, for two seasons time and five seasons hence to see where we see the boundaries of success are set. So what do we regard as a successful season for 2011/12?
Yep, survival, in fact the way we've been playing recently, anything else would be greedy! Don't care about the FA cup but I do want us to play well tomorrow - if we get beaten by MK dons it'll be an embarrassment and right now, trying to attract some bigger names to the club, that's the last thing we need.
Is survival success? Not for me it isn't. I support QPR for the way they've always tried(and largelysucceeded) to play football unlike the formulaic approaches of the Stokes and Wimbledons of this world. We have good players who are capable of better than they are producing this season, and I'm not talking about results. Many are unhappy with our run in the last 8 games but if you look at the scores we haven't been tonked in those games, mostly losing by the odd goal. It's the lack of innovation and the apparent timidity in trying to outwit the opposition that is demoralising and the thing that infuriates me. Success for me would be an honest courageous attempt to play good football like Blackpool did ( give me Ollie anyday!) If we're going to be in the PL let's do it the right way and if that's not good enough to survive, well so be it. That to me would be success, something to be proud of.
Success is mid table. Survival is a pass mark. We have the resources so this to me is the bare minimum. Relegation = failure.
i think it depends what team we put out today. if it's a strong XI then i would agree with you, if it's a mixture of younger and fringe players, then not.
It won't be near our strongest team, I'd expect half and half which should be good enough to get a replay at least considering the 'reserves' were our Championship winning side last year...
It's a bit too obvious this one. Prem survival has to be this and every season's main objective whatever our circumstances. However, will survival satisfy me? No, not if we fail to learn from our mistakes. If this carries on, we'll be in the same position next year and until we get capable leadership. Player acquisition will not be enough.
I have to agree with QPR12thman. Anything less than mid table is not successful. Of course, if we are 17th at the end of the season, i'll be happy but feel we should definitely be aiming higher
Was having my hair cut this morning and the hairdresser's son plays for Tranmere. Asked her if he fancied a move to QPR, she replied that he was ambitious... She wasn't joking either.
