Newcastle and Cardiff are eyeing Lyon defender Bakary Kone.

The 25-year-old Burkina Faso international is set for a switch to the Premier League this summer and one of two Lyon stars Toon boss Alan Pardew has targeted.

Pardew has urged Joe Kinnear to seal a deal for striker Bafetimbi Gomis, but Kone is also being offered. A double swoop would cost £10million.

Pardew said: “I’m pushing Joe to get a transfer in. I think we need a boost now. We are in a situation where we want to progress now. The team is in a good place.”

Fans are growing anxious that Newcastle are the only Premier League club yet to bring in a senior player since the end of last season.

Pardew has told worried supporters to relax, but admits he’s on the case of Kinnear - who is playing catch-up after heading off on holiday shortly after his shock Tyneside return last month.

Newcastle lead the race for Aston Villa’s Darren Bent, but face competition from Tottenham for £6m Lyon striker Gomis.

Pardew added: “Gomis is a player who would suit us, and we should pursue it as strongly as we can.”

Shola Ameobi has been told he won’t be leaving Newcastle this summer despite interest from Middlesbrough and Birmingham.

Pardew said: “Shola’s a player that’s under contract here. With my striker situation at the moment, I need as many as I can get.”

I would be surprised if we shell out millions on a player who is only a slight upgrade on Williamson.
The real worry is with the start of the new season getting closer a bid has yet to be lodged regarding Gomis (or anybody else, I am guessing).
Aulas told Canal+, "There is an interest of Newcastle for Gomis. We wait from them to come to us with an offer ..."
    Hurry up FFS.

Well, the article says the correct things:

Campbell will stay until we have brought in senior strikers, which will be real real soon now honest, and then he will be loaned out.

All good if you can believe it

To be honest a loan move for Campbell would be in best interests for everyone and at 18 I would send him to a Scottish side where he can bang in the goals and gain confidence and experience and then next season loan him to a Championship side

Not sure how much more of this ****ing farce I can stomach.

The fact that Kinnear has a job as DOF at Newcastle United is staggering enough, but now we have the Manager of the club 'advising' the DOF through the media to the players he wants.

You really couldn't make it up.

Thinking about changing it as our love affair seems to be. Heading for the divorce courts lol

Just read that Pardew is "pushing" Kinnear for transfer activity..... Do you reckon he should "push" Joke.....
Over a cliff or off the pier ? Answers on a post card please lol

It seems over the last week or so that 3 strikers names have come up again and again Gomis Bent Remy. If we are going to sign 2 strikers then of the 3 mentioned I guess it may be Gomis ( unless someone beats us to him which is highly likely ) and Bent. Both cost less than Remy ( Bent I understand would accept lower wages to come to us ) but not Remy as he went to QPR solely for the money and he doesnt seem the type of player to lower his wages to play for us and we cetainly would not pay what he currently earns. So for me its Gomis and Bent unless Mr. Carr surprises us all again.
But we do need Joke in Ear to get his ageing finger out soon and show us why MA appointed him.

Can we not just draw a line on the ground and push a decent striker over it, immediately committing him to NUFC for life? How difficult is it?
