So with all these NDA's and Due Dillies, I thought "why not get the hypothetical juices flowing" and put the question out there - if you were managed of the Toon and had £300m to spend, what would you do with it? What do you expect Rafa to do with it? How would your Newcastle United 2018/19 line up look? And no silliness - 4-2-3-1 formations only.
Actually, on closer inspection of the photo I'm pretty sure Jim Scott is Diego Costa's long lost twin brother.

I don't know who we could buy but if we can move from £5m/£10m players into the £20m pool of players then we'll see a big improvement in the quality of the team. Rafa has the team well drilled at the moment but the quality isn't there. Quality at #9, #10, DCM, left wing and full backs and we'd be a good side. I'm not expecting £300m to come in from outside the club. We'll already have maybe £50m a season from what the club generates itself, maybe more. Another £50m on top of that each season for a couple of years would give the manager a good pool of money to strengthen the side with player sales also generating some decent coin. What I don't really want is the club taking on a load of debt and going back to the Shepherd era and spending beyond our means. If someone is going to give the club money then great, but the long term future of the club shouldn't be put at risk.
Don't expect to see much in Christmas maybe one or two big name player coming in but Rafa - IF he has a war chest in the summer - will want the players in early doors (first day of training) next season to drill them hard on the shape and what he expects from them. The names will change the work ethic (and formation) won't. Expect a few in over the next 2-3 windows if he has the money to get quality. 10-12 signings but again I think Rafa will be happy with the shifts he's getting out of the lads at present and will stick with players like Lacselles, Merino, Ritchie etc for a while. 1/2 GK 1x RB 1x CB 1/2x LB 2x CM 1/2 Wing 2x CF We are talking hypothetically though right? I'm not deluded...
I think that we are all presuming that Staveley will buy the club and pump a big chunk of cash in and Rafa will stay................... lets hope to **** that Ashleys final act isn't to sell the club to some 'consortium' that hasn't got a pot to piss in and who is funding it with a Wonga loan...................... because you do know that it will be best price that wins with him and **** the future of the club.
The OP said no silliness...half a goal keeper, half a left back and half a winger...FFS! We’ve already got those in darlow, haidara and Aaron’s...why do we need more?
