Deeney out for next 3 games, who would you play up front? http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...ope_to_be_back_after_the_international_break/
Interesting article when Deeny says that some teammates fell behind in learning English, and some others could learn from McGugan's work ethic in training. Sounds like one or two differences going on and not everybody united together or pulling their weight. Who hasn't been training as well as they might have been? and are any of them just here for the money and to put themselves in the shop window?
Very interesting as I thought LM had a rep as a slacker... Vydra has been very lightweight in my mind he needs a kick up the jacksie...
All depends on the formation, but seems they're liking a 4-2-3-1 at the moment so my line up would be; ------------Gomes----------- Paredes--Angella--Hoban--Pudil ---------Tozser--Andrews------ ---Anya----Abdi-----Dyer ----------Vydra------- Subs: Bond, Cathcart, Doyley, Munari, Fabrini, Forestieri, McGugan (assuming all are fit) For me, away to Blacburn, this gives us a lot of pace on the counter but also that defensive protection.
Am I alone in thinking that it's a pity we haven't got Ranegie still? As evidenced last week we might just not be big enough. Dyer, unfortunately, seems to be suffering from Adebayor syndrome, sulking that he is not imposing himself on the coaches to pick him. It's noticeable how the players act towards him in any goal celebrations... or rather don't. Glad I don't have to pick him. On paper we've an abundance of riches. We've yet to show that on the pitch. If we can perform somewhere approaching the sum of our parts we'll be in business. The best coaches get a synergy from their team and that is an exciting prospect indeed.
Certainly lack something physically and dare I say work rate without Deeney. I'd maybe try FF up front as he is in form when fit whereas Vydra is struggling a bit.
We really have been lucky recently. Blackpool missed their penalty , and Bournemouth missed theirs,---and they should have had another . All this and we had 11 men on the pitch when it should have been 10 after 30 minutes. So we are 3 points better off than we "should" be. On Saturday Tamas looked both slow and not strong enough (odd no news on his injury) while Toszer uncharacteristically gave the ball away too often, and Anya was pushed off the ball too easily. We showed good skills in the last 20 minutes, but against a better team (or even this team) would (should) have been 3 goals adrift by then. Somehow the team remains less than the sum of its parts, or players expected to be "match dominant" are not performing. Why? Fitness? Tactical confusion? Lack of team spirit? The fixture list is getting tougher from now on, so we should be grateful for "points on the board", however much undeserved. Still a long way to go, and more convincing performances will surely follow. In the meantime, I am more nervous and less confident than I expected to be.
To be honest, in my opinion, it is not really "who" we play up front, but "how" we play with whichever player is up front. We had Vydra up front on Saturday, and had Anya and Dyer from the sides. Pace galore, but we didn't move the ball quickly, we didn't get it behind their defence and in front of our strikers. Vydra wants the ball played in front of hime to run onto and was getting visibly very frustrated on Saturday at the number of balls that came to his feet, chest or head. I don't agree with the 'Vydra has been lightweight' or that he 'needs a kick up the backside' view, I think we are not using his strengths. You can't expect to replace Deeney with Vydra and play the same way. Withe the pace we have up front we need to be turning the opponents defence, but we are not doing so.
