He must have previous if he didn't get a suspended sentance while the others did.

Well this is REALLY bad. When I saw that 2 months joke sentence I thought that was a lot..... but 10 months!?!?!?

With good behaviour he could be out around December..... or maybe his sentence will be reduced?.... Personally this is bad for Watford, really bad. Without Deeney last season we could easily have been relegated. If he had kept up his goalscoring form into this season he could score 15+ easily..... that could be the difference between play offs and a relegation scrap.

We do not have another striker we can rely on. Iwelumo, Garner, Assombalonga, Massey..... these are all squad players and they're not that good (yet anyway for the younger ones).

We're going to need a new striker who can bang them in... but they're not easy to come by and I dunno what we'd spend to get one.

The incident was caught on CCTV cameras, so I can only assume that from the footage he appeared to be the ringleader.

A lot. We are desparate and with a new owner who might have money people will try to do us badly.

Apparently the CCTV showed him punching one of the students, then kicking him when he was on the ground. He then resisted arrest though the charge of assaulting a police officer was dropped. It will certainly be a test for the club...very difficult to sustain the image of a family-friendly club if you tolerate this sort of behaviour. Deeney clearly has a serious attitude problem...

We needed a decent striker even before this. Okay, he was starting to come good (ironically since the incident). But even including Deeney, the current squad's all time top goalscorer for Watford is John Eustace. Ignoring Deeney, Martin Taylor is the second highest scorer, and Sean Murray is third.

Hopefully we'll end up with a couple of italians up front combining with mcginn on the wing massey and who knows who else will be ready this year. Troy is history if hes been as bad as it looks.

apparently it was his first offense so it seems as if he's being made an example of. Didn't we keep a certain Marlon King on after he'd been proven to be a woman beater? If we did, it seems disproportionate to sack Deeney, though that doesn't mean i condone what he did!

Im with you there H. If we can keep a woman beater on the books then why should we sack Troy? This all seems a bit harsh to me, there must be something we dont know, or he was being made and example of

i think it can only be the latter. It just seems wrong though, somehow, despite what he did being bad, he'll serve his time and will have been punished. I don't see that we should sack him. The only thing i can think is that because his contract will be up in a year, the club may not wish to renew, so why pay him for the months he's in jail, therefore they can get out of it by sacking him and using the sentence as an excuse.

I wouldn't make too many excuses for him. The Guardian reported the story as below:

The Watford striker Troy Deeney has been jailed for 10 months for taking part in a savage attack on a group of students outside a nightclub. Deeney was caught on CCTV as he kicked one of the victims in the head during a night out, Birmingham crown court heard.

The 23-year-old, who pleaded guilty to affray at an earlier hearing, was arrested shortly after the fracas, which left one man with a broken jaw and another requiring 20 stitches to a mouth wound. Deeney was sentenced alongside three other men, including his younger brother Ellis Deeney, who also admitted affray.

Passing sentence, judge David Tomlinson said CCTV footage of the incident near the Bliss Nightclub on Broad Street, Birmingham, showed that Troy Deeney and his friend Oliver Brennan played a more serious role in the disorder than the other defendants.

The 30-second video clip, which was played to the court several times, clearly showed both Troy Deeney and Brennan kicking out at the "defenceless" students, one of whom received repeated blows to the head as he lay injured.

Although the judge accepted that none of the grievous injuries inflicted on the victims could be attributed to any particular defendant, he said the kicks to the head were an aggravating feature of the case.

The judge told the defendants: "Three men in particular were singled out for what can only be described as a gratuitous beating. All four of you to a greater or lesser degree joined in but the effect of it was that these three men, who were already heavily outnumbered, became even more so as a result of what you all did. At least one kicked a man while he was already on the ground and very probably had already suffered a really serious injury."

The court heard that the students were set upon after a man demanding entry to the Bliss club had a metal pole taken off him at about 2.20am on 29 February.

Watford said it was fully aware of the sentencing but had no further comment to make.

To get 10 months for "affray" is way OTT, must be more to it. Seems more like an ABH sentence to me (Not Anyone But Hatters but the real meaning!!) I dislike intensely little pr*cks who think it cool to beat up on folk, if they want to try it on try me!!! If he's learnt lesson maybe just maybe he should get a chance but if his attitude is the big I am then he should do one... don't care if he's the next John Barnes which he isn't!! I'm also embarrassed by Ashly Y to be honest, he was by far and away Englands worst player and I hate his theatrics, don't know where he learned them but its shameful.

definitely agree with you about Ashley Young, i was embarrassed too. Always think of him as one of ours...
As for TD, if he can use it to the community's advantage, and get kids to think about turning themselves around and teaching them that violence is a bad thing, then i'm all for supporting him.

Maybe he wouldn't have been jailed if Baz had come up with a financial sureity? ;)

Seriously though, wonder whether the club had it's mind on other things and didn't present a good enough character reference and support for him?
