If, as is now looking almost certain, we go into admin we will be deducted 10 points. But there are rumours that the deduction could be 15??? I've looked at our remaining fixtures and here are my predictions: Ipswich (h) W Barnsley (a) D Leeds (h) L Middlesbrough (h) D Reading (a) L Brighton (a) D Bristol City (h) W Birmingham (h) L Coventry (a) W Hull (h) L Burnley (h) W Saints (a) L Millwall (h) W Doncaster (a) W Crystal Pal (h) W Derby (h) D Forest (a) D This adds up to 26 points, giving us a provisional total of 61. The 10 point deduction takes it down to 51; still good enough to stay up. But a 15 point deduction would reduce it to 46 points. It is touch and go as to whether that would be enough. In the past 5 years the team going down in 22nd (the team we have to stay ahead of) has had 42, 47, 46, 52 and 42 points. Taking our superior goal-difference into account that would give us a 60-40 survival rate. What are your thoughts? Will we stay up, despite this tribulation?
Devon, the point of administration is to reduce the clubs costs to survive otherwise it's liquidation, the only way to do that is to release the high earning players. If you did that do you still think you'd get those results?
Really feel for you guys. You have had it rough for a few years now. Hope your club can be saved somehow. Would be a crying shame for a famous club like Pompey to fold. Good luck
I am almost certain it will be 10 Dev, as the previous admins were in the Premiership (different league = different rules), and ages ago. That sticks you above the bottom line on GD. Coventry are as good as down so I would not be worrying about them. Forest cannot buy goals and seem to have relegation written all over them. If it was me I would be most worried about Doncaster as they have the players to go on a run, which funnily enough means that Sharp to Southampton was probably a great deal for you. You're welcome
-10 points. We'll stay up, no doubt. Anything more than that and we're in trouble. That's also assuming we keep the players we have at the moment. A win tonight would be a MASSIVE boost.
I'm sure it was only two years ago and the unsecured creditors haven't yet started to be paid. The other admin was some time ago when Mandaric saved them in the second tier. There is a real possibility the administration request being denied unless it can be shown there is enough money to fund it and then run the business to pay back the creditors. All the creditors need to say is look what happen last time... PFC are on a knife's edge.
Do you think the Apple reads these posts? Well that's my prediction 3 points down on the deal already
It'll be 10 points immediately then another 17 after we leave administration having screwed over the old CVA creditors. So don't expect to leave admin before June/July...
If that means a 10 point penalty this season and starting on -17 in August then at least we have a fighting chance, just so long as we finish 21st or better this term.
The real irony here is that Pompey actually have the funds in their account to pay the taxman ahead of the WU petition, but their accounts are of course frozen because of this action. (The parachute payment having been made early by the Premier League this Monday). Sadly I predicted this would happen the moment Chanrai got on a plane to come and sort the mess out. I really believe it is touch and go, last nights match was a must win and we didn't despite two close range sitters being missed by our forwards.
To be honest SB3 I don't actually think there is enough in the bank other wise Pompey would have possibly paid it. Pompeys refusal to pay the debt was the reason HMRC went to court to lodge the wind up order I think. It is going to be touch and go as you say. Would be dreadful if they went the whole hog and docked you a similar amount they did with some of the other teams (Luton and the like) that had had multiple administrations. Didn't they give you a hardy warning last time you were in the Football league and went into admin? I hope you guys survive whatever happens.........you never know it could be a blessing in disguise.
Right at the moment I'd put your existence well ahead of relegation issues. And, despite being a Saint, I have no desire whatsoever to see Pompey go out of existence. (I'd happily see the crooks that run your club erased from existence though) I'm not a big fan of points penalties. They penalise the players and fans whilst letting the real scoundrels get off scot free. The real sting of the points penalty is not this year - which may or may not see you relegated, though with the subsequent hit on morale, I'd be more inclined to think that you will - but next year. If you are relegated and have to start next season on -17 you won't get promotion out of League One for at least two years. Should you be relegated, your best bet might be with youngsters. This'll keep the wage bill down and League One is a good league in whcih to bed them in. Mistakes won't be so harshly punished and they can learn their craft in a less pressurised enivornment. After years of punishment, watching your team stomp all over the league can be a satisfying tonic. It worked for us, it can work for you.
good post! I think now that AA has been confirmed as not being the administrator, that we can expect the new administrator to dig out some bits and pieces that Chanrai didnt want made public - this is going to get a lot more messy before it gets better!
