My Name is Will Pownall I am Masters student at the University of Surrey and a huge football fan. For my dissertation topic I have chosen to analyse the factors which affect match attendance in English professional football and their relation to fan loyalty. I chose this topic because the club I support - Aldershot Town FC have struggled with attendance figures over the past few seasons. I know Aldershot are not alone in this struggle and my research aims to find out why fans are not attending games. I am asking football fans up and down the country to take a maximum of 5 minutes of their time to fill in a short questionnaire. I will be sending the results of my research to football clubs in England so by doing this you will be helping English football clubs improve the match day experience for fans! Please follow the link below to complete the questionnaire. http://freeonlinesurveys.com/s.asp?sid=klrhx4gpio5toz5513510 Thank you.
Got asked to do this before by someone on here. I don't like the whole " strongly agree strongly disagree " - I don't believe these surveys achieve much. From my end, I think the Bundusliga has it right for fans on everything.
Filled it out for you but have to agree with Westlake, The answers are so vague that I'm not sure the survey really gets to the bottom of why people don't go. For example - and I don't mind if you use what I post here - I, untill recently, lived in Wales - I now live in Redditch, both are very far away from Ipswich which means I don't get to go to Home games very often, if at all, in a season, in fact the last home game I attended was in 2008. When the fixture list comes out I have to look at when and where the away games that are close are. Involved in my decision is also the price, especially considering while I was in Wales I was on JSA for a significant period of time. Even if the game was in reasonable travelling distance could I justify spending the Money on the ticket and travel - i'd inevitability also buy a programme and half time refreshments - usually the answer was no, I couldnt justify the spending.
Going off on a tangent here, but do many people buy programmes and drinks/food when at football matches? I haven't bought a programme for years... I couldn't even tell you how much they are. I occasionally buy a bottle of water at half time to cure my croaky throat from 45 minutes of anguish, even treated myself to a pint at half time last season but generally speaking my only expense is the ticket (and travel to the ground) I'm intrigued as to whether I am alone in my stubbornness to pay any more money for what is a two hour period and instead eat/drink before and/or afterwards
Used to always buy a programme at every away game I attended. Certainly never buy rip off over priced crap inside the ground ever. When I went to PSV vs Nac Breda - got a package with the club. No two tickets together, so they sold two packages of the following @ 60 euros to me and a friend. ( cost per person ) ticket / 20 euro merch voucher / 10 euros food and drink. Managed to get two pints for that too
