Don't like to brag, but what happened to all these people saying how much Adkins loved Martin. As soon as Hoover and Fonte were fit he was dropped to his rightful place, back up.

Adkins was pleased with Martin as a stand-in but Jos was always first choice. You praise players in public, not slate them, if you want the best out of them.

Agreed, he wasn't going to come out and say Martin isn't good enough for championship football. I must admit i have began to change my opinion of Martin, but to say he will ever play premiership or international is outrgaoues

Martin did well when standing in for both Jos and Jose. Stop slating him

Of course Hooiveld was going to be restored to the starting XI as soon as he fit again. He and Fonte are turning into the next Lundekvam and Svensson. It's got next to nothing to do with Martin, and I certainly wouldn't describe him as being "dropped".

God, I don't rate Harding, but I don't go out of my way to make threads about it. As lazyboy says, it's getting boring now.

Well Martin is clearly not 5th choice CB seeing as he was selected ahead of Jaidi.

Just incredible, you really are. I think you'll find that people were just having a pop at you for being so agressive in your slating of Martin. He was always a back up; backed up the team well, but now choices one and two are back.

The point i'm trying to make is that he is still not ahead of Fonte and Hoover at the age of 22, so for anyone to suggest he will play for England is deluded.

How many people have actually said this though? Care to name them? And does it really warrant the creation of these sorts of threads?

Martin will never play at a higher level than the Championship in his whole career. I think that sharpshooter, like me, is more frustrated with the blind dogmatism with regards to his potential ability that some fans have voiced on here, than with Martin himself. And yes, at least 3 different posters have marked him as a future England CB on here. Who's counting? I am... At what point is a 22 year old who played non-league football throughout his teens and has been totally unremarkable in his handful of League One and Championship fixtures going to usurp the likes of Jones, Smalling, Caullker and Martin Kelly in years to come. I don't have any problem with Martin himself (despite his poor pace and suspect positioning, his passion and determination surpasses the majority of the team), more the blinkered delusion of fans who think he can realistically play in the Premiership let alone for England.

Smalling was, like Martin, a non-leaguer until he signed for Fullham. A year later he was at United.

I don't think anyone's really serious about Martin playing for England any time soon, but the threads made just to hate on him are kinda dumb.

He was brought in at low cost to see how he handles professional football. Jos and Forte are our frst choice centre backs and Martin was always going to drop back to the bench win fit. The experience he has picked up in the last few games will be valuable and will help his development. Who knows whre he can go? Stuart Pearce and Ian Wright both played non league before turning pro and diodn't get into the England team until they were much older.

Yeah I'm getting tired of this guy. Nobody said he was good enough to play for England, and nobody said he was first choice.

Easy to win the argument when you exaggerate the claims of your opponents to such absurd degrees.

I think it's pretty stupid to claim he'll never play PL though!
