If anyone fancies watching some decent footy.
Watched the match on TV at the time. Will never forget that year - I think that was the year we won promotion from the Third to the Second Division, Waggy & Chillo firing in the goals, along with Butler, Houghton & Ray Henderson.
The year I really took an interest in football - what a momentus year for both England and City it was.
Apart from 2008/09 when we beat Bristol City in the Wembley final, that was the best ever season. Last match v Milwall 40,000 + with people sitting on the touchline. Also a good cup run, lost to Chelsea in quarter finals.
I've never really cared to be honest. It was nearly 25 years before I was born, plus it was fixed in our favour (a nice win for the host nation). The fact we fixate on it, despite being **** for pretty much every major international tournament both before and after, is part of the reason that we're a global laughing stock. I like Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst though
The fact we fixate on it might be something to do with the fact that that's the only thing we have won. If your idea of fixing it is to meet West Germany in the final.... Give credit where credit is due.
The Germans still moan about the third goal not crossing the line, but the England player following it in (either Hunt or Peters) had the chance to hammer the rebound in, but he just turned full circle and celebrated as if there was no doubt in his head it was a goal. To me that's the best proof and also the German's didn't have anything worthy of calling a shot in extra time, then Hurst got the fourth so how can they complain?
1966 was a great year, watch the Tigers get promoted and then England winning the world cup topped the year off.
