this scourge of recent times needs to be addressed. Is neither pop nor punk. Strummer would be turning in his grave if he could hear this s...e. It appeals to spotty kids who want to break away from the norm. In that case kids try some proper rock and metal. And should you hear some proper punk you'll see there is no comparison.
There is a pop punk board for this kind of nonsense .... this general chat where the serious issues of the day are discussed both sensibly and reasonably. Thank you for understanding but coming on here with threads full of rage is rather frowned upon.
Ah commachio commachio commachio , youve only started frequenting GC so ill tip you off buddy. Encouraging nonsensical rants and moans isn't the done thing pal.
Strummer was in a pub rock band before he formed The Clash and jumped on the punk bandwagon. The Clash were not punk in the slightest. The Sex Pistols were a manufactured boy band and the very antithesis of punk.
Good points, well made. If only everyone could be as calm when making their points , but theres a ****ing board for this ****e m yjhmdfko[zb]o 67o9[-jojmZS DBdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbdbjjjn
Punk rock has been dead for a long, long time. It died, officially, on the day that I bought a Clash T-shirt as a naive youth with my first credit card, only realising later the dreadful error I had made.
It was the Eighties man please log in to view this image Up until then I had been true to the stencil/spray paint requirements of the time
Actually The 101ers were pretty punk. And most punk acts had done some time in pub rock outfits such as The Guildford Stranglers.
I liked Armagedeon Time, their cover of I Fought the Law and Rock the Kasbah. The rest was mostly pish.
New York Dolls were basing out what became known as Punk 2 years before the Pistols were put together by Malc. The first recognized punk song that charted was New Rose by the Damned.
The Dolls were actually managed by McLaren just before they imploded completely. He spent some time in New York and where he came across them, The Ramones, Television, The Voidoids etc. Punk certainly originated in New York, but as John Lydon said when accused of stealing the idea from the NY acts, "shame on them then for only having one idea." The Damned were one of the best live acts I ever saw (supported by The Adverts in 1977). Sensible started out wearing a ballet tutu and ended up naked, Dave Vanian was dressed in full vampire regalia, and the Rat, upon having a wine bottle lobbed at his drum kit, picked up the bottle, came to the edge of the stage, and offered to wrap it around the head of any **** who wanted some. Heady days.
