Neil has now had a full season and has brought in players he wanted, not the dross Sunderland were forcing on him ... but he's not doing very well tbh.

Stoke are down the bottom, three straight defeats and, most worrying of all for him, they've only had 5 on target efforts during that time ...

... contrast that with the 5 we scored last week and the 8 attempts yesterday.

Whatever the case the football we're now watching wouldn't have happened under Neil.

There is one poster on here at least that everytime we lose comes out with. Get Neil back!

I mean ignore the way he left etc... just think about the fact we wouldn't have had the football we have now under him. He wouldn't have given the young lads the freedom to basically take the ****ing piss out of the opposition some weeks.

O'Nien was up the pitch getting involved in the attack in the first 5 minutes yesterday ffs.

We wouldn't have had the goal against Reading or the multiple others that were a thing of beauty since then!

It was ****e when he went as we all thought he was a good fit for us at the time and most thought Tony Mowbray wtf!

But it was a blessing in disguise, I think TM has took the fans, Speakman and every ****er by suprise by what he can do with players like we now have and long may I continue.

P.s I feel like I've waffled ****e but what is trying to say is glad Neil decided to **** off for what ever the reason was and I was gutted at the time!

Grateful he was in charge to get us out of league 1, but can't forgive him for how he left, glad he did though.

I couldn't have put up with his whinging excuses when we had lost games or not played well, his tinkering for the sake of it etc.

There is no way we would have and continue to play how we are now if he had stayed, him leaving had been a blessing in disguise the mole faced rat bastard

Think he’s a solid manager and I’ll be honest was really disappointed when he left, and even a bit underwhelmed when Mowbray came in. As each week passes it’s turned out to be one of the best things to happen to us in a long time. The way Mowbray has got us playing, how he’s improving every player, has set up foundations for us to succeed for years.

My thoughts exactly was gutted when it all played out and thought wtf when we went for Mowbray but christ I'm happily eating humble pie now.

Gone and forgotten now really.

He's twenty years younger than TM , but TM is a much more forward thinking coach.

Neil will have short changed himself financially in the long run unless he gets them into the play offs at least. He'll be gone and his next job won't be at Stoke or Sunderland's level.

I think if the form they're in continues he'll be under real pressure. Most of their fans aren't keen on him anyway, they actually finished last season lower with less points than the previous season when they were managed by someone the fans were desperate to get rid of and have shelled out a fair but of cash in the close season. It's only the money they've spent and the fact he was their long time first choice that makes me think he's got a bit of security there. Anyone else would be facing the chop soon.
You're right that his next job would be at a lower level than us or Stoke, but let's not forget he was out of work for a year after leaving Preston before we appointed him, so even a future job may not be that quick to come

It is early to judge, but I don't see them up there challenging. Upper mid table, maybe top 10, but that's it, in my opinion. I might be wrong, but I don't see them challenging the top 6. And judging by some of the comments on the Oatcake, he might only have 4-6 games before they really turn on him if things don't improve.
