http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spor...le-of-two-stadiums-for-hero-windass-1-5245253 He recalls: âI loved playing at the KC but I never thought it had the same atmosphere as Boothferry did, even when we were in the Premier League. âI put that down to there not being a Kop end for the fans to gather at and sing, like happened with the south stand at Boothferry Park. âI always thought the Kop at Liverpool used to suck the ball into the net. A lot of home ends were like that and if I was captain of a team, I would always choose to attack the home teamâs main end in the second half. âThe KC doesnât have that sort of thing and the atmosphere suffers as a result. But I still loved playing there.
The South Stand at BP was never vocal, well certainly not from 1980 onwards anyway. Lets end this myth now. We only ever had noise when we had a full Kempton.
I agree - its a myth - I stood on Bunkers for years and years and whilst we did get behind the side the sound never enveloped the whole ground due to the high roof of the South Stand and the openness of BP particularly after they demolished the North Stand. Latterly after moving to Kempton the noise in there was tremendous but even that never sounded that great from Bunkers. The fact that the East Stand holds 7000 and the 'singers' are spread far and wide affects the 'volume'. Other than people of this ilk moving to one end I can't see this changing.
I'll sing when I ****ing well feel like it. And I liked the Offspring, but after Americana they kinda tailed off.
Home fans standing in the north stand AND put the away fans upstairs somewhere (in the future that is) at the KC... As a child of the north stand and the well @ boothferry park and then from 1977 @ bunkers hill,,, I agree 100% with what Deano is saying.
I wonder if the NEW ground that Mr Allam is planning to build, off the A63, will have a kop end? http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=vzMLyYfXNyk&feature=endscreen
I wholeheartedly agree. I know the stadium was designed for away fans to be safely enclosed behind huge barriers in the north stand but every other club seems to manage with 1 line of stewarding between them and no Fort Knox style system behind the stand. Stick the away fans literally as high and as far into the West Stand north end corner as possible and give us behind both goals. No family stand malarkey - they should be lower West stand - just open to anyone. It's an easy solution that would make a big difference.
Nonsense. High roof had nothing to,do with it. Hillsborough's Kop had no roof at all in the 1970's but a fantastic atmosphere. All over Europe and South America there are grounds with no roof at all where they generate a fantastic atmosphere. The highest decibel level ever recorded at a football match was at a ground in Turkey with no roof and a capacity not a lot larger than the KC. Our problem is we have too many who act as spectators at the theatre, sat silently and actively disapproving of anyone being vocal or standing up, a lot of who sit amongst and split up those who do want to get behind the team. You only have to read how many on here inform everyone they aren't going to sing. It is a free country and they pay their money and it is their choice. But let's be realistic, the lack of noise and atmosphere is due to a lack of numbers of people being vocal and nothing to do with the height of rooves or the design of stadiums.
