Dean Holden pinpoints two things that should excite Bristol City fans ahead of QPR clash
Bristol City head to west London to face Queens Park Rangers this evening as the Robins look to bounce back from a defeat against Reading in the Championship on Saturday

Bristol City boss Dean Holden insists that there is plenty for Robins fans to be excited about, despite defeat against Reading on Saturday.

The 3-1 reverse against the Royals in the early kick off on Saturday meant Bristol City missed out on the opportunity to go top of the Championship temporarily, with the Robins dropping to sixth instead over the weekend as a result of the defeat.

However, Holden says the fact that City are only four points behind leaders Norwich City after 14 games is a sign of their progression so far this season, while adding that there is more to come from this side.

And Holden is looking for a response from his players as City travel to face Queens Park Rangers in the Championship this evening, looking to get back to winning ways.

“We have had a good run, and we have our targets," he said.

"Two goals a game, we haven’t done that since the Huddersfield game, so we are always looking to keep improving and we have been working on that in training.

“It is about getting that balance of being defensively sound, because clean sheets are really important in this division, but at the same time it is about getting on the front foot and making sure you are giving the opposition problems as well.

“We are right in the mix though and Saturday we could have gone top if we would have won, and that was the disappointment, and by the end of the weekend, we are in the play-off places.

"We know where we are at and only three points from second position, so there is still work to do, but that is the exciting thing for us, we have still got miles more development and people to come back from injury.
“But we are giving ourselves a chance and it is putting the disappointment from Saturday to bed quickly and focusing on getting a positive result against QPR.”

Meanwhile, Holden has also spoken positively about some of the younger players within the City squad, with Opi Edwards making his league debut as he came off the bench on Saturday, while Ryley Towler has also been involved in matchday squads in recent weeks.

And Holden insists that more opportunities will come for the younger players as City look to continue their rich history of stars coming through the academy system.

“It is excellent for these guys of course getting the opportunity and of course, for our academy," he said.

“We have got a proven history of bringing players through and those two have been very good, training with the first team. I just felt late in the game with Opi [Edwards], he is very quick, and a couple of times we got the ball to him and we wanted to work those one v ones, because the opposition wouldn’t like that. It was a chance to throw him on and see if he could affect the game late on and it is great to get them involved, and we will have a couple more as well in the next week or so.

“It is very exciting times for the academy, and I just wish we could have put him on with a positive result, but it wasn’t to be.”

Sounds like we were poor against Reading, so here's hoping for an improvement. Still can't see us getting anything at QPR though unfortunately.

We WERE poor. Reading bossed us most of the game.
I think it was a mistake starting with Fammy up front. He has absolutely NO first touch and pinging fast balls at him is just like passing straight to the opposition.
Martin and Wells should be up front, with Semenyo playing wide left - feeding them. I believe it's where he (Semenyo) has caused opposition the most problems of late.

Said this before, but for a well paid professional footballer, Diedhiou's first (and often 2nd and 3rd) touches are bloody awful.

I hope DH learns from his mistake in starting with him when there are better options available.
