As a professional footballer do you have an obligation to grant interviews with the press?

Paul Scholes has famously shunned doing interviews almost his entire career and has only recently done a few. This business with Joey barton is a prime example of someone that tries to be open and frank only to have his words twisted by the media with an agenda.

Personally if i were a pro footballer and some murky hack stuck a mic in front of me i would simply say "sorry i don't speak to tabloid journos as you can't be trusted to tell the truth without some kind of agenda led manipulation taking place." i would make a very public statement to the effect of "i will only give quotes via twitter or my agent and anything else you might read supposedly attributed to me is complete bollocks and should not be believed unless coming directly via the aforementioned mediums"

or words to that effect. if every footballer did the same then the tabloids would have zero credibility, not that they have much of it now but if every footy player effectively said the same thing then they would be totally undermined.
 
The media will still create 'source' stories and speculation anyway because there are enough stupid people out there who take it as verbatim.

what a bloody great line! but true to the letter.

there will always be people out there dumb enough to read it but its the fact that it even becomes a debate that really irritates me. how many posts a day do we get on here from people with a link to such a non-story practically in tears because their fav player has been 'quoted' saying something?

then before you know it your on newsnow and its everywhere and everyones buzzing about it as if its gospel. it really f*cking gets my goat.
 
I hate all the media all the Red topd, Daily fail and that bint in the Guardian.

I've come to the conclusion that unless it's in the Chronicle or I here it from the player themselves in a Live interview take with a pinch of salt.

Very few of the media are a reliable source any more when it comes to ANY news not just football.

Anything for a quick headline.

i can't read anything in the popular media. Jordan blowing off 4 midgets whilst peter andre cries in the background is not news or worthy of column inches. its the ****ing spastics that show any attention to it that are to blame. same with big brother contests, x factor, cheryl ****ing cole, jade goody and any other ****ing half wit that the inbreds up and down the country just can't get enough of.

For me, it all represents whats wrong. making a butch of ****ing idiots rich for being nothing other than disfunctional and ******ed.
