Dealing with a racist at SJP- a personal recollection

    Dealing with racists in your midst is never easy.

    I once got a racist thrown out of the Milburn Stand. He was mouthing off with his mate and NO ONE was bothering to say anything. He was a big lad and had been drinking. So at half time I wandered to speak to the feds and told them kids were upset at the filth coming from this guy. At start of second half there were four feds looking up at him, so when he started jumping up and down about the ref of all things, the feds thought he was spouting some racist rant and moved in. He resisted arrest and elbowed one of the feds in the face.........queue three more feds and the idiot got carried out by his arms and legs.
    As soon as he was gone, about four different people commented he'd been doing that all season and had been spoiling everyones' pleasure of watching the game.

    A little bit sneaky of me but effective.

    As a minority myself, if I ever came across a racist I would probably tell them to shut the hell up. If they persisted (or started to have a go at me I would call for stewards or whatever.) Sometimes though, I appreciate in the heat of the moment some people do say some things and they don't mean it. Got a free beer out of it once <laugh>

    I bet you all go to bars to get OUR free beers and eat then eat OUR free peanuts and assorted bar snacks!

    A few mates work for the Daily Mail and it surprised me as they were Polish ;)

    I fully support the concept of stewards being called feds. <ok>

    It wasn't really sneaky of you, you did the right thing. He sounded like a right **** so if you'd approached him personally that probably would have been you elbowed in the face, half time is usually the best time to inform a steward *ahem* I mean fed since there's much less chance of you getting flack for it from the guy.
