There were some comments on the BBC Live Text last night about Essien looking a shadow of his former self which made me a little uncomfortable.

Not many players have the class of Tiote and holding onto him will be a struggle if the squad doesn't receive the investment needed to move to the next level.

If Mike isn't willing to invest heavily with solid acquisitions for areas of the squad that need more depth then Tiote will want away.

Many millions in the bank (for no future purpose if not being invested) and Ottl in place of Tiote would soften the kick in the teeth a tad.
