De Ridder has to be the biggest waste of space ever to pull on a Saints shirt.

A more talentless footballer I am yet to see.

    There you go.

I thought I would join in the new level of debate this board has sunk to.

Oh Godders, come on now! Don't let them get to you.

I like to think of those sort of posters as Venus Fly Traps, don't do what they want or you end up giving them exactly what they contribute and want.

Harsh. I really want de ridder to come good as he seems like a good bloke who puts in a tremendous amount of effort. Not the impact I was expecting him to have, but lets hope he has a great pre season and improves his final ball, then maybe he will become a useful prospect in Prem.

Come back in a few days Godders. We'll have got over this particular low by then.

As far as De Ridder goes - he's not quite been the player I hoped for. It would help if he could complete a decent pass. His crosses are okayish though, and I was led to believe they were awful. Got to sort his simple passing out though. He's in the best place to improve, so I'm sure he'll be fine.

I like the man. Reserve judgement for one more season and see how it goes.

have i missed something, what's happened on the board?

    is this about sharpshooters thread?

in relation to the post, jermaine wright is and always will be the biggest waste of space to put on a saints shirt. (i didnt watch ali dia, (out of interest does anyone know any footage of the match (you see jokes about it all the time but could he really have been that bad)))

I've seen a few videos and Fran was actually at the match. Both of us have expressed ours views that Ali Dia did not stand out like a sore thumb as regards being a poor player. He wasn't great, but nothing that required all the fuss that has been made of the situation since.

You might be right about Jermaine Wright, but he's up against mightily stiff competition, in my opinion. Saints have had a few clunkers in their time, with previous Board's tendencies to be cheaper than cheap.

As people have stated to me numerous times, if you don't like the level of debate on this board, trot along elsewhere... Speaking of Trot, Laura Trott is certainly a worldy.

Unfortunately, no one seems to have anything more than a few seconds of footage but what I find most remarkable is the fact he nearly scored.

Stupid thread. Considering he gives it everything in the shirt is enough for him to be no where near the 'biggest waste of space' category even if he is a poor player.

What a load of rubbish. Jermaine Wright was a useful utility player. We had a weak squad at the time and I remember seeing him play a lot of different positions and doing an ok job. Also he tried his best for the team which is something hardly any of the players did at the time, they had a poor team ethic with a bad manager. They were nothing like the current squad in terms of commitment.

People always think someone is useless if they raise hopes and don't deliver. There have been many many anonymous players that have been worse than de Ridder and Wright. de Ridder hasn't improved as much as I might have hoped because he does give us much needed pace, so I am not expecting him to feature too much next season except from the bench.

I like de Ridder. He is unique amongst footballers, he has moves that I've never seen from anyone else. And I have always said that if he doesn't know what he is doing then no-one else will. Seriously though, he does have a place. Coming off the bench if we need something different or we need to retain possession for a while is how he is best utilised. I doubt he'll ever be a starter. He does need to play with his head up more and be aware of who is around him. Unfortunately, this is something that is very hard to 'learn'. But if he can do that I would expect his final ball to improve.

I was at the Ali Dia game and I must admit that I was surprised he was taken off so quickly as he wasn't significantly worse than anyone else. Had he managed to score he might of lasted a bit longer. I think he went off to play for Gateshead or somewhere, so still a reasonable standard of football.

    Oh dear oh dear
I spend a bit of time on the Pompey board for various reasons and I do
like tongue and Cheek comments that get a reaction.

I think De Ridder has the potential to be a very good player. He has great pace and dribbling ability he just needs to work on his final ball and decision making. It would also help him if he could get a run of games, he has only been used really as an impact substitute this season. I also think he would be more effective on the left hand side cutting in and running at the heart of the defence rather than having to go wide and to the byline each time. I know that isn't going to happen because Lallana plays there but it does give us another option.

Is it "tongue in cheek"? Obviously written in a certain style to cause a reaction but that doesn't mean that the sentiment isn't there. What's the answer Godders?

When De Ridder got a regular run of games (at christmas) he put in his best displays for the club as a starter

He then got injured, and fell down the pecking order, but with a consistent run of games, I think De Ridder could be a good player for us

I don't think that this thread deserved any replies at all. It's a one-line gag and has nothing to do with DeRidder at all. St Godders is not the Messiah- he's a very naughty boy! <doh>

To be honest guys my opinion is that St Godders is proving a point! All you need to do is to post something a bit controversial and you get the replies. Which of course is true. Whether he believes De Ridder really is as bad as he describes is another matter.
For me though......I agree to a point that I have been disappointed with De Ridder. We badly needed a good right mid fielder. He seemed to fit the bill and yes he is very tricky and quite fast but oh boy his final ball...... Also his defencive capabilities left a lot to be desired. Can he improve....who knows?

You are quite right as always Channonfodder. This post was not about De Ridder at all.

De Ridder can't be faulted for his energy and enthusiasm and he certainly keeps the full backs busy when he plays.

I feel the same way about him as the Arsenal fans felt about Theo in that his pace is a great attribute but he has still got a lot of work to do on his final ball.

Given long enough I am sure Nigel and his team will turn him into a good footballer.

But this thread was all about the standard of debate we as posters expect on this board and it was really refreshing to see that despite my rather ridiculous original post many people politely responded to it with sensible arguments as to De Ridder's ability and role at the club. To them I apologise for my crassness and thank them for their refusal to sink to the same poor level of debate.

It is exactly that which we need to protect.
