"Jonathan loves life in Wales and is delighted to have made it to the Holland squad," said de Guzman's agent, Jan de Visser. "It is only the beginning of March. I will be having a meeting with the Swansea City board in two weeks' time." http://www.thisissouthwales.co.uk/S...tory-18341569-detail/story.html#axzz2MlGSHl5Y
This is good news. Hopefully we can sign him up as soon as possible before over clubs become interested once the season is over.
It is hard to see the very top clubs going for him, so that leaves Swansea to compete with clubs that are on a near equal footing in league positions. For this reason I think Swansea are in a very strong position to get him and win any salary auction which I think will be played out sensibly. At the end of the day, teams from Holland are unlikely to tempt him at this stage of his career whilst teams from Spain, Germany and Italy who are around the 5th-10th position in their own leagues are not getting anywhere near the money that the Premier League counterparts get from TV revenues. What Swansea lacks in stadium match day income and shirt sales compared to a club like Getafe, we more than make up for with £60M all guaranteed as a TV Revenue and at least £25M for finishing 20th in the league. Thats right folks, the new finance deal from Sky and BT kicks in next season and the money is huge! Every club gets double the £30M of TV games from last season and this season, and also gets about 80% more in league position prizes! De Guzman is ours and we can afford De Guzman but due to the situation in Spain and Italy, and Germany's obsession with profit but low ticket prices, Swansea should get De Guzman on a £40,000 a week deal which I assume is inline with our policy?
lol... that is all, I think... these numbers were pumped out before they even started selling the overseas rights which are apparently much bigger. USA alone more than quadrupled their bid to show matches from the previous three years
Don't think the problem will be De Guzman or his agent but Villareal could put a huge askingprice on his head. They probably want at least their money back and with his achievements on the pitch lately they could ask for even more...
8 Million Euro's is the number mentioned in the Evening Post, which is what they paid for him. But if he is intent on joining Swansea then that might play very well into our hands, it puts V'Real into a corner where it would be difficult to play teams off each other and they also run the risk of letting his contract run out. This one will be interesting, so folks, do you think 8Mil would be a good or bad deal provided there is other interest for him?
I wil probably be the only one but I don't think he's worth it. To me he drifts in and out of games and I get the impression that he sometimes feels that it's other people who let him down instead of trying harder. just my opinion
8m EUR is probably a bit steep but aren't Villareal (like most Spanish clubs) skint? I would imagine us being able to squeeze that amount by 25-40%.
Have to agree. Some days he really looks the business, on others he is totally anonymous. Like most of our midfield he looks good going forward but goes missing when we have to defend. He needs to be far more consistent to warrant a fee of even £5 million and that's the maximum I would pay for him right now. Let's see how he performs in the next ten games. He has obvious ability, we just need to see it more often.
£8 million would be a little steep in my opinion but given the financial crisis among Spanish clubs right now, I think we might be able to land him for £3-£4million. However as Ivor says, £5million would be the absolute maximum for him.
Villareal in segunda division. Skint. 5th in table. 8 points off automatic promotion to La Liga. 1 point away from falling out of play offs. Roughly translated, a buyers rather than a sellers market. The only variable is JDG himself (ala Gylfi)
Something wrong with u guys JDG is one of our best players and has been for most of the season! 8mill is big money for us, but fair considering his performance that got him into his national team!
Disagree, Swan. You are spot on when you say he has been one of our best players but he doesn't produce it often enough for me to warrant a big spend. He has little defensive ability so, when we come under the cosh, he goes missing. If we can get him playing somewhere near his best for most of the games, he is a definite asset because he certainly has the ability. But he has been quite anonymous in a number of games. I would like to sign him but not at £7 million which has been touted in some circles.
JDG has been Brilliant this season and for 8million Euro around £6.5 million mark is a bargain and worth paying for a player who knows our system and is improving with every game......He wants to stay and we will be a fool not to sign him on a permanent...
Not doubting his quality, but for £8 million I'd rather see ML spend that on a striker of good quality for us. Hopefully we will be able to tie him up to a permanent deal though. Would also like to see us buy somebody with steel to strengthen our midfield up in tight games.
I dont see signing JDG as a reason not to sign a striker tbh as he is playing in the squad now and we still need a few players ready for Europe next season. Two defenders, one midfielder and two strikers. and that is assuming nobody leaves and we have 3 or 4 players who other top clubs are interested in.....I honestly believe Ash will leave for liverpool rather than arsenal in the summer and chico to A C Milan, Im not sure about Michu as there are a number of clubs interested and even fergie has his eye on vorm, so i can see plenty of activity happening when the season ends....
