Looking through my old programmes found this which may evoke memories for the older ones amongst us, and some background of times gone by for the younger ones.

    HULL CITY SUPPORTERS

    Open letter from Terry Neill

    Dear supporters ,
One of the reasons which clearly influenced my thinking when accepting the appointment of Team Manager at Hull was the threshold potential team, ground facilities and crowd potential.
Since my arrival in the city i have been impressed with the genuine desire for sucess. This is not unatural;everyone wants success.YOU want it and I want it.Unfortunately I can offer no guarantees, but I do pledge that i will do everything within my powewr to help Hull City acheive the success they deserve.
People make football without the fans the game is dead, so WE need YOU.In saying that i couldn't ask you to come along and support us if we were not providing good entertainment.Again i assure you that it will be the aim of myself and everyone connected with the Club to provide with football of the highest quality.
In acquiring my services , the Club has overtspent the special Action Fund set up for this purpose, and cash resources at my disposal for further team strengthjening arwe of very limited dimensions.I cannot wait, nor,i believe,do you wish me to wait a further year or so for the Development side to accumulate another acceptable total_we need it NOW.
I believe the current squad is a very good one indeed, but football being what it is,one should always be able to strengthen and improve even the strongest of teams.I am asking, therefore, for your financial help.
Somehow, and this is the only way i know, i must accrue sizeable finances for the plans and projects i have in mind.
This letter, therefore, lauches my own appeal- the "Terry Neill Appeal".To all Hull City supporters, past ,present and future, help me acheive as quickly as possible the "big time" this City has never known......Please give me 1 pound($ over here !)
Yes i am begging, and i'll borrow too- anything in fact to MAKE this club sucessful.
If i could GUARANTEE First Division soccer next season, half the Riding would probably beat a path to my door right now!Regrettably ,i can guarantee nothing except one helluva try, but one thing's for sure,a response of such magnitude today would guarantee every donor his moneys worth this coming season. That i WILL promise.
If you cannot afford to give a pound will you please LEND me one?(State loan and claim back at the end of the season if not satisfied) I cant be fairer than that.
Names of all the donors will be shown throughout the season in match programmes and ALL monies recieved will be earmarked for "team strengthening"

The cheek ot the Irish?Well its hardly the way to win friends and influence people i admit(though that is my chief aim), but i need some tools and thinking small, acting small and indeed ASKING small, is no way to tackle a mammoth problem which,in this city, has defied solution for 60 odd years.TOGETHER we can solve this problem.
Cheques or Orders should be made payable to "Terry Neill Appeal" and when you have saved you have saved your 1 pound please send your donation and your name to

    TERRY NEILL APPEAL
    HULL CITY AFC.,
    BOOTHFERRY PARK,HULL

Thank you, and if i promise a different season, heres hoping it will be a successful one ,too.

Addit ididnt ask for my money back, had my heart broken 6 th rd v Stoke but new era and i truly believe we are going to get oit right this time.

    Eat them alive Tigers
