Actually the Tory's traditional support came from landed and vested interests, and the classical Liberal movement was anti-Tory (small liberal government was very much a thing of the Left up until the mid 20th century) - I'm not for protecting the interests of people who are already rich, I'm for leaving the market wide open so that everyone who is capable has a shot of displacing them.
