According to the evil post, City are hoping to sign striker Steve Davies from Derby today in time for the Palace game tomorrow. The same rag is also saying that negotiations are also continuing with Queens Park Rangers striker DJ Campbell today. City had a bid accepted by the West London club at the weekend and the 30-year-old former Birmingham, Leicester and Blackpool man is due in Bristol to discuss personal terms but a deal is unlikely to be done before the Palace game. Are we putting all of our eggs in one basket again if we sign them both ? Sure we need strikers, but they need service and that's where the problem lies.
If we sign both I think Pitman will be sold to make room because for some reason McInnes doesn't seem to want to use him. We desperate need a striker, but we don't need two. We've been incredibly wasteful with strikers over the past five years and I'm worried that these are just another set of knee-jerk signings. We also desperately need a new central defender and a creative midfielder (you know, that thing we've wanted for the best part of a decade?) and signing two strikers is ignoring problems the squad has had for too long. Hopefully we're also looking at loan moves.
I don't think Del likes or rates Pitman and I think you could be right. He has undoubted ability but does appear to be a lazy and scruffy individual who just does the bare minimum most of the time. When he came on as sub a few times last year he looked really hungry and up for it, but at other times he appears totally disinterested. I think Del wants fit, active, super keen individuals who will play their heart out for the cause, and I cant argue with that.
Davies is ours. http://www.bcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10327~2892182,00.html All in all I think this is a great signing. There is definite potential here, and he's still pretty young. If he can get his scoring boots on for us then I see some great things coming from him. However, if Adomah and Bolasie leave then perhaps we'll end up playing him as a winger, or we'll ditch the wings and adopt 4-3-3.
Excellent signing. And at this point if we do sign DJ as well, I'd hope Pitman does move on. I want him to have a good career and if it isn't working out here I'd rather he try somewhere else. Let's be honest, even after the opening loss we look a much more attractive proposition for a prospective signing than we have in recent years.
EXCELLENT SIGNING bring in the DJ and we have goals written all over us. I think Pitman will be on his way.
IF we get DJ too, then I expect Davies will be used more on the wing. Would be nice to have a more attack minded midfield who is keen to get forward and bag a few himself. If we dont get DJ then he'll probably be used more as a striker and Del will turn his attentions back to a centre back. Im sure he still has many irons in the fire, and no doubt there will be mre activity before the end of the month.
I always thought we looked all right in the one striker formation with two advanced wingers/inside forwards behind him and three in the middle. Pearson, though often average, plays best as the most advanced guy in the middle and with Skuse sitting deep and Elliott driving forward as he so often does I think there's a good balance. Davies could hopefully be the guy to lurk on the opposite side to Adomah (whose propensity for lurking in the middle as of late has irked me). Woolford and Bolasie don't seem up to the task and Anderson is seeing little time at the moment. Against Southampton we looked... fine in this formation.
Bolasie will be gone - time for Anderson to show us what he can do. Pits, Stead, Taylor & Davis will do nicely Time now for that badly needed lock for the defence.... and maybe Buzsaky if he'll come Lets lose Bolasie, Nyatanga, Stewart (remember he ?),
Just said on sky sports that dj Campbell is expected to sign for us? Wow getting really excited for tomorrow now hope he's in the team for tomorrow
Me too amazing what 1 signing can do. If anyone cares ill be making my Match day threads after tomorrows game
Derek McInnes: "This is the only signing before tomorrow, but we'd like maybe two more before the window closes." Campbell and Amougou?
I thought we had failed to agree wages with DJ. I hope we don't offer more wages to DJ than we did to Buzaky, as I know which player I would rather have.
Sky Sports News said talks were still very much ongoing after we'd signed Davies. Word from one of our first teamers is that we don't want to pay anyone more than £8k a week unless they really are exceptionally good. For the same reason we're trying to get shot of Kilkenny because he's on the best part of £12k a week.
This creative midfielders thing is a myth. Strikers create chances for the midfielders (to make chances) with their movement and cleverness, something we have been woefully lacking for a long time and Pitman does not possess it, I'm afraid.. neither did Maynard in his last 6 months here, he just wasn't bothered.. If we get both these strikers on board you wait and see how much better our midfield will look... We deffo need a right footed centre half though, thats a must.. Kilkenny wont be missed by me much..
