Bristol City’s Steve Davies has agreed terms on a move to Blackpool. please log in to view this image The striker was at Bloomfield Road yesterday to discuss terms and have a medical on the day Michael Chopra’s signing was confirmed. Assuming all is well with the player’s medical, which was finally completed at around 9pm last night, he will be this morning confirmed as a Blackpool player before being introduced to the press this afternoon. Pool have paid what has been described as a substantial fee for the striker which both clubs have agreed to remain undisclosed. Chopra arrives at Bloomfield Road after an agreement was made between himself and current club Ipswich Town. It’s understood the players wages were by far the largest at the club and the Tractor Boys were desperate to trim their wage bill. A full interview with both players will be in tomorrow’s Gazette, but Chopra has tweeted about his delight. “It’s a new challenge and a fresh start for me can’t wait to pull on the Blackpool FC shirt and play in front of their great supporters,” he said. “I would like to thank Ipswich Town Football Club and their fans for the support they have given me in the last 2 years.” Both players trained were due to train with their new team mates this morning and will make their debuts against Newcastle United at Bloomfield Road on Sunday. Liverpudlian Davies is, like Chopra, one who can be included in the proven goal scorer category. He fired 13 goals for Bristol City in the Championship last season, despite the club’s relegation, following his £750,000 move from Derby last summer. Speaking about the potential move, Bristol City boss Sean O’Driscoll said there’s little they could do to stand in the striker’s way. “Every player at this club wants to play in the highest division they can – some of them will have that opportunity, some of them won’t,” he said. “First and foremost the club has to accept a bid for that to happen, which in this case we have, so the player is free to talk to Blackpool. “Nobody’s pushing him out of the door, but we’ve accepted a bid because we think it’s a fair one.” Davies scored against the Seasiders last season in the 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate in November. Pool will now turn their attentions to former Wolves forward Stephen Hunt who is available on a free transfer following his departure from Wolves this summer. http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/blackpool-fc/davies-agrees-blackpool-move-1-5893927
Bristol City FC ‏@bcfctweets 3m BREAKING NEWS: Steven Davies joins Blackpool for an undisclosed fee. He has signed a two-year deal. #BristolCity
Since we've said it was an undisclosed deal I reckon we sold him for the reported £300k. A pretty poor deal on our part, but hopefully one that'll provide one of our academy products a chance, or will free up the necessary wages for a new signing.
Disappointed Davies has left but good luck to him, dont want anyone at the Gate who doesen't want to play and fight for our cause. You do have to say SOD seems pretty good at selling the club to some promising signings I wonder why he couldnt persuade Davies to stay? Or whether he tried to? Maybe his hands were tied trying to trim the wage bill and get some cash in. My hopes for the start of the season will depend on any more departures or arrivals before the transfer window closes.
I would have thought that the wage bill had been fairly well trimmed given the players that have already left.
Don't think SOD struggled to get Davies to stay. Was more a matter that davies wanted to stay in the championship. Like Skuse, Heaton, Nyatanga, Gerken, Anderson have all done
I'm gonna go against the grain here but I'm struggling to be all that bothered. Not a lot of pace, injury prone. Didn't exactly pull the opposition back 4 around. I dont know ?.. just feeling Kelly will be a bigger loss.
This is a concern for me, not a stupid question, if Championship clubs have signed 6 of our players and they consider them of sufficient quality, why, oh why did two managers fail to keep us in the Championship.. If they are good enough, we should have been...
Only saying a slightly better Pittman because of his fantastic record with Bournmouth, but we will really see who's the better player when they're both in the champ
