There where rumours flying around that Villa wasn't entirely happy at Barca and that Liverpool where looking to make a bid. If Liverpool have any kind of offer accepted for Villa i hope we match it. Now i don't think this is likely and it's probably just another made up transfer story, but if there is any truth in it think of the player Villa could be for us. It would give us plenty of options going forward - either we rotate RVP and Villa in the top spot - both world class strikers able to lead the line alone. Or, one of the players drops out wide giving a front line of RVP---Villa---Walcott or similar - which would be immense. Or, RVP drops deeper and plays a role similar to Cesc as a very forward midfielder. ----------Szczesney-------- Sagna---Kosc---TV---Santos -------Song---Wilshere----- -------------RVP----------- Walcott---Villa-----Gervinho Any way we chose to use the player he would be a fantastic addition and is of the quality where we could make sure both he and RVP got sufficient game time. It would give us one of the strongest front lines in the league. RVP, Villa, Walcott, Gervinho, Arshavin, Oxo, Miyaichi, Campbell - great players to atack with. Just thought we'd have a nice article on here after the draw seems to have brought all the pessimists back out. On a side note i'd like to see Arshavin given a chance to play the Cesc role - i think maybe with his age he'd play better there than on the wings. Unlike most i still think he can be an important player for our squad. Thoughts?
AA - Not good enough. As for Villa - I'd absolutely love it. Although I have to point out that Campbell won't be able to play till next seaon at the earliest.
Really ? What possible reason can there be for him to be unhappy ? The guy is extremely talented, has a value of around £50m+ and if he were to leave Barca he would weaken their team and strengthen someone elses. It sounds like this is a media lie to me....
Yeah Campbell is one for the future but thought i'd chuck his name in as part of our attacking unit He'll be a really great player. Something else i was thinking with Villa is it would be nice to grab a player off Barca for a change!
Supposedly he was annoyed with the amount of game time he is getting and dislikes Messi or some such - typical stuff the media come out with for reasons a player wants to move - so no idea if there is any truth or not.
He'd have to ask for a transfer to Arsenal for it to go through, and he's kicking on for 30 so he'd need to be circa £20m. I can't see it happening - Podolski seems more likely and is a persistent rumour at present.
Yeah i think if we go for a striker then Podolski is far more likely but if Liverpool signed Villa i would be irritated if we didn't try and match the offer to try and sign him ourselves!
If there was real problems between the two then it would make sense that Villa be the one to leave rather than Messi. But it would have to be a real problem for one of the players to need to leave the club. But i guess if he has problems with Messi and is unhappy with the amount of game time he is getting then there may be a move on the cards. It'd be disappointing if he went to Liverpool as imo we should be able to compete with Liverpool/Spurs and in general get the player - it's when Chelsea/Utd/City come into the mix that we should have to be concerned about getting a player!
HarrysDisciple please feel free to not read this thread and not comment as it is glaringly obvious you will add absolutely nothing to the discussion.
How was it a fair point? Fabregas played 8 years at the club and we all knew he would like to go back to Barca at some point - it wasn't a shock to anyone and he was good enough to return before he did - note the bids over the seasons before he left. And that is one example of one player (which is a flawed example as shown above). Due to the comment being "Until they get good and they take them back" - please feel free to give me a few examples of the players we have taken from Barca and then when they get good going back to Barca? So no, it wasn't a fair point, and no it wasn't of any use to the discussion. I really struggle to understand some Arsenal fans...
Fair enough, but they do like taking our players when they get good. Maybe not taking THEM back. Cesc. Henry Petit Overmars Time will tell whether they take any of the youngsters that we take out of their academy back.
Yeah they do like to buy our players - as i'm sure we would have liked to buy some of theres if we could afford it! It's because we have a similar system and style. Henry though we kept for his best years and let him go on our terms. He still played well for a few seasons but wasn't the same player and his goals/assists dropped drasticaly. And with the others none have been quite what it was with Cesc where actualy Barca will get his best years. (Btw you missed Hleb off the list). So i agree completely they love to buy an Arsenal player - but HarrysDisciple was making a cheap shot about Fabregas rather than actualy contributing constructively
Villa would be a massive signing - not sure we'd get him for under £25m though, unless he states a desire to only leave Barca for Arsenal Then we could offer a massivley undervalued bid of around £10m Agree with afcftw - HarrysDisciple, usually mate you're a fairly even handed poster, but over the last few days you've just been throwing in cheap shots that make you look like a cluless wum - do yourself a favour fella and stop embarrassing yourself
I recon Villa is probably of the level that AW might think he is worth the transfer fee - he does after all always say for the right player he would pay the money. And a deal for Villa would be such a big move he wouldn't mind the spend imo (if it was £20-25 Million). It'd be the first time since Henry/Bergkamp that we'd have 2 world class strikers in the team together. It would allow alot more flexibility to Wenger of how to set up the team and what players to rest etc... And it'd be nice to brign a player of that quality into the EPL. It's just a dream really though - But i'd love to see it happen! Particularly if Liverpool go for him!
If Villa is unsettled at Barca, it would significantly increase his chances of leaving. All speculation at the moment I know, but Villa is top quality and would definitley fit in with the 'Arsenal way' - As afcftw points out, it would give Wenger some real options up front and the flexibility to not have to always rely on RVP.
