With all due respect I know that David Villa is a world class striker on his day but there are a few things that would bother me *Having a 29 year old striker isnt going to help our future *Giving Barcelona 40m pounds for a player they obviously dont want to keep is bad business considering they paid less than 40m for him *Does Fernando Torres, our record buy and the guy we are going to build our team around need a strike partner and can he have one *Would funding Barcas quest for Cesc Fabregas be an advantage(weakening arsenals squad) or a disadvantage(improving Barcelonas squad and basically giving money to Wenger) *Is there other players we could get from Barca that could be for the future that would not completely fund Fabregas transfer but help it whilst also improving the future of our own squad (Alcantara, Jeffren, Pedro, Bojan etc ??????) *There must be more needed areas for us to spend our money(Remember splashing 30m on Shevchenko when we already had Didier Drogba, bad move all round) In my opinion the money would go a lot easier towards securing players in areas that we DO NEED TO STRENGTHEN - 2 wingers (despite a lot of fans detestings we do need 2 wingers as i believe we should get rid of Anelka, Malouda and Zhirkov with them being replaced by 2 new wingers and a combo of Sturridge and Kakuta) - Gregory Van Der Wiel , i read that 9m might be enough and i would get that sorted pronto -Just give Tottenham the extra 5-6m they want to secure Luka Modric Lukaku and De Bruyne are done deals and if we were to sign another striker of known quality then i would look more towards Napoli's Edinson Cavani and Porto's Radamel Falcao My ideal squad for next season would be Cech, Turnbull, Hilario (Wont change now) Van Der Wiel, Ivanovic, Alex, Terry, Luiz, Cole, Bertrand Mikel, Essien, Modric, Lampard, Ramires, Mceachran Sanchez, Hazard, Kakuta, Sturridge Torres, Falcao or Cavani, Lukaku --------------------Cech--------------------- VDW ----- Alex ------------- Terry ------ Cole ------Essien/Lampard ---- Ramires ------------ Sanchez - - - - - - Modric - - - - - - - Sturridge -------------------Torres--------------------- Subs: Turnbull,Ivanovic,Luiz,Essien or Lamaprd, Hazard, Lukaku and either a new striker or Mikel
I would assume so and I think its the best for all parties even better if he joins Galatasaray or Malaga as we wouldn't be in direct competition and the biting us on the ass wouldnt occur Kalou said recently that certain players sulked when dropped and I bet he was talking about Drogba, Malouda , Anelka and possibly Essien Apart from Essien I wouldnt miss any of them as they frustrate the living daylight out of me Good offer for Essien would also be considered Add to exits the injury prone Zhirkov and the inconsistent Bosingwa and Kalou and the squad would look fresh and hungry with a lower wage bill and a more youthful creative look
Actually I would operate a rotating system where each of the 6 defenders plays 20 plus games with Ivanovic and Luiz covering at both CB and opposing full back positions
you wanna keep swapping you defenders all year long?? In what world is that a good idea? Goalkeeprs and midfielders need consistency in the Defenders they are playing with each week. Goalkeepers wanna see the same 2 faces in front them all season your 2 cb should be Luiz and terry with alex coming in as cover when needed
I think this guy has been playing far too much championship manager. If we do sign another right back then we are going to have four top centre backs vying for two positions. The centre back pairing is key to the teams defence and the idea of rotating them is misguided to say the least. I would like to see Terry and Alex as centre backs and Luiz as a defensive midfielder as his passing would be better utilised there. Ivanovic could then provide cover for the right back and centre backs.
This Villa being sold story is complete nonsense. Why would Barca sell their main centre forward??? Barca already have a brilliant team so why mess with it, they will probably just buy sanchez. Can't see the point in selling Villa to fund Fabregas who wouldn't even get in the team until Xavi moves aside surely. Anyway, the 40 million quoted is laughable for a 29 year old who costs just over 30 million a year ago. He's no better but is a year older, yeah i can really see that happening!!! Also, I'm, pretty sure Villa doesn't want to leave Spain. All in all, a non story.
I see this said time and time again and it is simply untrue. Fabregas would get in the team, Iniesta can play as a left winger and many believe (me included) that this is his best position. I would even say that Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas could all play together in the midfield with Xavi playing slightly deeper.
OK, i'll just say then that Villa brings more to the table than Fabregas at the moment. They can live more without Fabregas than Villa in my opinion cos Iniesta and Xavi can do what Fabregas can but better.
Luiz needs to be a starter in any line up we have But it needs to be in DM in front of the CB's I just hope the new boss (or bosses see this & go with it) This will make Mikel surplus & may give Essien a kick up the arse too
Agreed Luiz should be in the starting 11. Centre or Right Back at least but maybe worth a shout infront of the back four to. I think we often forget that Mikel is playing a very difficult position at still quite a young age. Maka was in his 30's before he was considered world class in the position. However he does make some silly mistakes and his passing is pretty unambitious most of the time which is shown up more by the lack of creativity around him.
Yeah, I agree with that. Fabregas is very similar to what they have at the moment, if Barca could buy Fabregas without having to get rid of Villa then it would make them stronger. A midfield and attack like this would be incredible; Busquets Fabregas - Xavi Messi - Villa - Iniesta But even if they did a line-up like this would be really strong; Busquets Fabregas - Xavi Pedro - Messi - Iniesta
For your information I dont even play championship manager If we sign a right back and we go by your theory then Alex will either play hardly or Luiz wont play No point making players unhappy It would be good to rotate and keep the players fresh all year long VDW , 22 games at RB Ivanovic , 16 RB, 10 CB ALEX 24 games at CB Terry - 28 at CB Luiz - 10 LB, 14 CB, 10 DM Cole , 28 at LB Then the remaining 104 games in CM could be shared with Modric , 32 games Essien or Mikel , 28 games Lampard , 28 games McEachran 10 games Kakuta 6 Games And the 2 wing positions and the strikers between Torres , Sturridge, Lukaku and 2 new wingers Torres 30 games Lukaku 5 at ST, 5 WGR (Plenty of sub) Sturridge 3 ST 22 WGR Winger 1 - 29 at WGR Winger 2 - 20 at WGR This would keep our squad really fresh and hungry as knowing you have to perform will improve the consistency of the squad I stick by my thoughts and i'm entitled to
So no drogba, malouda, anelka, zhirkov, ramieres, kalou, bos??? Ramieres was probably our best midfielder for the 2nd half of the season. Malouda for the first. There will be signings but i cant see us replacing half our squad in one go - hence why it probably came accross as a little bit 'football manager' than real life.
How old was Drogba when he signed for Chelsea? I wouldn't be put off David Villa because he is 29. Arguing that he isn't 'one for the future' is bonkers. Abramovich wants success in the Champions League yesterday.
Drogba was 25. He was also around £22m, not £40m. 29 is not the right age to buy at, esp ast that money.
Just checked, he was 27, and £22M in 2004 was a similar level to £40M now surely? He would be a good buy, I can't see any reason for not signing him, other than the expense, which doesn't really phase your owner, does it?
