Strange that he never made the move to a Premier League club. I always rated him and thought he'd do a really good job over here. He worked tirelessly for his clubs and his country, and has both great skill and the ability to finish clinically. Probably lacking in pace now compared to his heyday, but would certainly have loved seeing him play over here.

Same here, WLW. The New York team's not going to be up and running until March 2015, so I'm really surprised that he wouldn't take a short term contract with Arsenal, Liverpool or Spurs.

But at least I'll get to see him destroy a few defenses over here!

I read that the NYFC was working out loans out of players ahead of their first season.

Your probably best placed to keep an ear to the ground on that one. No doubt you'll keep us in the loop.

Why would he? He played his entire career in arguably the best league in the World, playing for the behemoth that is Barcelona, amongst others.

Its like wondering why Wayne Rooney never played in La Liga.

As the rest of my post said , he's always been hard working, industrious, and direct. As such he's probably the most 'English' player the Spanish have produced. I can only Think of maybe Puyol as well. That's what I meant, Loretta...

I get you now Willy. Fair point.

I was just thinking though that sometimes we can get a bit cocooned within our league and maybe even a bit brainwashed with the 24/7 Sky hype and we start believing we're the center of the footballing World.

What is the best league in the World at the moment I wonder? When you strip all the hysteria away from the PL I think the standard has slipped slightly and is now behind the Spanish league and the Bundesliga would give it a run for its money. I would say its still definitely the most exciting though.

Jeez get over yourself Loretta. Not everyone needs to bite every time you dangle your worm over the side. So stop fishing...

Had you asked a question I'd have answered. But you didn't. You mused a bit then told us what you thought.

I wasn't dangling anything Willy. I asked a question and then gave my own opinion on it. What's wrong with that?

I expected you to give me your thoughts on it.

I should have known better :emoticon-0114-dull:

When a Willy accuses me of dangling something in a public arena like this, its time to take stock...

That's a shame - I was hoping for a cheap (ish) fantasy football player!
