Just read this article and was genuinely impressed with his career, some of it was before my time but I never remember him being that good ,rarely talked about when people talk about English Greats but that is some career ….https://t.co/TkEKubVJuj

I seem to remember from many years back that we were interested in signing him from Crewe, the fee quoted was £200,000 at the time. Sadly, the transfer never came off.

    It is isn’t it
Always came across as genuine and likeable too.
Seemed a perfect fit for a manager but was a disaster at forest and don’t think he’s done out since

i've spent the last couple f weeks trying to remember his surname, having the image of him scoring for england by hooking the ball into the net. a very useful player, often getting goals just when we needed them. underrated too, as demonstrated by how scarce mention of his name is.

What is the dodgy offside against Germany in Italia 90? I’ve watched the highlights of that a hundred times and never seen it!

I’d forgotten most of that game, including that goal.

He was captain going into the euro 96, el tel took it off him just before the tournament. Platt wasn’t best pleased.
Didnt play against the Swiss, missed the Scotland game due to pulling a muscle in his chest/stomach playing in a charity golf match.
I think his last job was part of Mancini’s coaching staff at citeh

His England goal ratio for a midfielder is fantastic and sounds like if one person deserved to get us to USA 1994 it was him , was carrying a **** side . Also impressed the way he went to Bari to get himself into Seria A to earn a bigger move there, Just surprised he doesn’t get talked about more . I am isolating and reading a lot of stuff online, this article just made a nice change from where I usually end up , looking what Pat Sharp got up to after funhouse on Wikipedia or something <laugh>

There was recently an article in the Athletic about why his management career hasn't been as successful as his playing one. Basically, he is blamed by Forest fans for their decline and many feel it started when he was manager, and his legacy from this has followed him.

However, when you look into it more closely his time there was a combination of some mistakes he made, like signing 3 Italian, who didn't adapt to the championship, ITV deal going tits up, but the players at the time speak very highly of him and his management/coaching style.
