No need to think, Marshall, based on last season's performances. Dropped the odd glooper but kept us in a number of games. Lewis had a tough time at Boro but that could have been due to their gung ho attacking approach and a leaky defence in front of him. It will be good for Marshall to have strong competition to keep him on his toes.
........brave attempt to start a meaningful thread there Swampy - must admit it's been pretty crap on here of late. Marshall no question. To be honest, I've been wondering just why Lewis signed for us. I'd have thought he'd want to play regularly at some decent level rather than bench-sit and wait. Did we offer him a deal that he couldn't refuse?
I was going to start a football thread as a sticky so football talk didn't clutter up the banter threads (well slagging threads rather than banter)!!!!!! Didn't think I'd get many posters though. Marshall number 1 without doubt. Lewis signed as he thinks he may get to play at Wembley in one of the cups.
i think we needed a lesser keeper as well rather than two strong ones. Heaton got driven away and Lewis must know that he isn't going to play all that much. It's probably cheaper as well. I think we will suffer if Marsh gets injured tho...
I am a bit perplexed as to why Lewis joined us if he wants 1st team football. Will he push Marshall harder than Heaton? We know Marshall can have the odd clanger but I don't really see him being replaced by Lewis unless he has some pretty big howlers and loses confidence in his game. It would be interesting to see what salary he's on as a measure of Malkys intent not to break the bank on players.
mackay said that marshall was in the top 3 goalkeepers in the division and so i agree he'll start the season as number 1. which means lewis starts on the bench.....i agree taff its a strange move for him, we're a big step up from peterborough but not if he's not starting. he played against us, very tall, got alot of publicity because of his england call up in 2008. i suspect we offered him very good money as he was a 'free' transfer, he's clearly backing himself to win a starting 11 place so lets see what he;s made of when we first see him play....
I suspect that the new boy will be given the chance to prove himself in the cup competitions like Heaton. I think it'll take a couple of real howlers from Marshall or an in injuriy for Lewis to break in. Like Taff said, I too am a little perplexed by Lewis's decision to join us if he's looking for regular first team places. Perhaps he's confident in his own ability to give Marshall a run for his money. I think it's a good move by MM to change the pretender to the throne thus keeping Marshall on his toes.
