When David first arrived he had several games in midfield and looked as if he was going places! Then he for reasons I never really understood got moved into our back 4 and has always been a disaster waiting to happen.
I hope his outstanding show today will make it clear HE MUST NEVER EVER BE SENT OUT AS ONE OF THE BACK FOUR!!!

Sorry BM but don't ever recall him playing in Midfield for us. He played right back on occassion but was a centre back at Benfica and was bought as a centre back.

Didn't get to see the game today but understand Luiz had a blinder in that position so hopefully we'll see more of that; especially when Terry returns.

Do you think he can cut it in that position in the big games of the PL?

I had to miss the game this morning as well so have just watched it via a couple of links my son downloaded and sent to me. Trying to avoid scores all day is so bloody difficult.
Dunno if you want to watch it but if you do I'll pm the links to you as he doesn't like me posting them on an open forum, its worth watching though.

Yeah I meant in defence, but yeah he did have a blinder today and it'd be worth a try against Villa.

He was the man of the match without a doubt! It'll be fascinating to see if he can serve up more of the same on Sunday!

He was terrific today, and didn't the 3 amigos thrive on good through ball !!!!! Hope he can retain that form against better opposition, and no reason why not. Goes to show what a really good creative midfield will do for our general play, with Ramires freed to join the front runners during rotation.
Not knocking him at all, but everything slowed when Frank came on. He has an important role to play in our remaining fixtures that's for sure, and with more fitness he'll be a real boost.
With Luiz able to play midfield when needed, and JT to come back, things are looking up.

For me this is one of the strengths of Rafa; he just seems to have the ability to find the right positions for certain players. Its one of the reasons I wanted him to take over when Kenny left; he knew most of the squad still and I felt he would have been able to get the best from Suarez, and to reinvent Gerrard. He turned Lucas into one of the best DM in the world.

Chelsea fans have been calling for Luiz to be tried in midfield for some time so Rafa has hardly pulled off a masterstroke of football innovation. The comment about Lucas is just laughable.

I am sure Rafa has been stalking the Chelsea board the last couple of season's reading about Luiz. Name those DM's that are above Lucas, bearing in mind I said ONE OF THE BEST, TO55ER!

If the Chelsea fans saw it weeks/months ago then how does switching Luiz to midfield make Rafa a tactical genius? Or are you saying the Chelsea fans are tactical geniuses as well? Maybe they are. Congratulations to those of you who are tactical geniuses, commiserations on not getting the £6million a year job that Rafa just got.

If by one of the best you mean Lucas scrapes into the top 50 then you may well be right. One thing I've never understood about Liverpool in the past couple of years is the failure of various managers to turn a squad of world class players into top 4 contenders.

Never said Rafa was a tactical genius! Would be interested if you could link to a thread where Chelsea supporters were calling for Luiz to play in midfield without it either being tongue in cheek or due to his incompetence in central defence? Amazing that if you guys have been talking about it for so long, you don't give credit to Benitez for doing what AVB and RDM failed to do.

Liverpool's problem is that the few world class players we have tended to have recently have all been in defensive positions, except Suarez, which of course you would know if you knew more than f@ck all about football! Would love it if you could name me more than 10 better DM's than Lucas, let alone 49!

No One Famous isn't a Chelsea fan but he is right, many Chelsea fans on here have been calling for Luiz to be given a go in midfield for a long time.

However credit to Rafa to actually giving it a go.

As for Lucas, whether Rafa or the player himself but someone has to give credit to turning one of the worst players in the league to one of the best (in his position). Lucas is a very very good player and has been badly missed by Liverpool.

ermmmm Luiz has been playing in midfield for Brazil before he even came to Chelsea. No one in the UK has been using crystal balls.
