We are delighted to be playing Crawley in the Cup in the next round,we also understand what Steve Evans their manager is doing talking up the game, making themselves look poor little minnows, describing Bristol City as a big club, creating the atmostsphere of David and Goliath,to generate interest in the game and sell tickets and prepare their crowd for a possible defeat. Why tell lies and exagerate details about another clubs business and it's players wages..? * People should remember they have a goalkeeper on 40 grand a week. * We've all got to work and earn a living but people might want to read that sentence again.!! * That was a reference to David James, the former England goalkeeper and he is not the only quality player on big money. * They have got a host of players on 10-15 grand a week. What have these personal details got to do with the game, they are blatant lies designed to cause disharmony and envy amongst our own players as well as the hopes of their own fans, the bloke should be taken to task for bad conduct... * http://www.thisissussex.co.uk/story-14068765-detail/story.html * http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Bristol-City-wants-David-James-wage-bill.html The last article says James is on £15k per week and may be on his way soon..
I believe David James basic salery is £20k a week when he signed unless he got a pay raise? as was one of the issues with Maynard that he wanted to be the highest paid player at the club and City didn't want to pay this much again. However on his £20k a week he will also have appearance bonuses and clean sheet bonuses so guess he could earn at least another £5k on top but with the number of clean sheets we have had this season we have saved some money. To me I would look at getting rid of him in January as regardless how good he is or was we cannot afford to pay someone £20k a week whilst playing in this league or we will end up going to same was as clubs like Leeds or the Sheffield clubs whos wage buget cost them.
This guy is meant to be a bit of a tosser isn't he ? He must be on something strong to think James is on £40k a week and have a host of players on £10-15k
This bloke is a total ****er He's the one that managed Boston Utd all those years ago and was investigated (and done??) for tax evasion. I hope we score 10 past their pissy little club and bring him down to earth. Mind you he's a hero when they thrash the Rovers !
Evans was suspended by Boston as manager on 4 July 2002 after a much-publicised Football Association (The FA) investigation into "contract irregularities". He later resigned as manager of the club in September 2002, after still being suspended by the club. He was found guilty by The FA in December 2002 of impeding an FA inquiry into contract irregularities. Evans was also suspended from the game for 20 months in January 2003 for involvement of the affairs of Boston, in which players' contracts lodged with the FA contained false salary details. Evans was further accused of impeding the inquiry and fined £8,000. Evans lodged an appeal against charges in May 2003,but The FA rejected his appeal later that month and the punishment stood. An announcement was made on 20 February 2004 that Evans would return as Boston's manager on 2 March. In September 2005, Evans and four other people connected with Boston appeared in court, denying fraud charges. In November 2005, Evans was given a £1,000 fine, suspended for a year, after admitting to using insulting or abusive words to the match official in a match against Peterborough United in October 2005. On 11 February 2006, he was escorted from Grimsby Town's stadium Blundell Park by Humberside Police at half-time, after he berated the fourth official after being incensed when Grimsby goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall appeared to handle the ball outside his area and was immediately spoken to by a police officer after a complaint of alleged foul and abusive language. After the match Boston chairman Jon Sotnick accused the football authorities of waging a "conspiracy" against his manager. In October 2006, Evans was linked with the vacant Darlington managerial vacancy, but Boston chairman James Rodwell and Evans both denied the link. Also in October, Evans was sent from the dugout after an altercation with Wycombe Wanderers player Tommy Doherty. After pleading guilty to conspiracy to evade tax, on 3 November 2006 Evans received a one-year suspended sentence and a £1,000 fine.Despite these events, Evans kept his manager's position at Boston, a decision that angered the Boston United Supporters' Trust.
Good stuff 49'r There are and have been plenty of 'characters' and wide boys in the game, so of whom have had problems of one type or another, and I have to say that most of them bring a smile to my face (people like Barry Fry, Paul Merson, Mickey Thomas and co) but Steve Evans doesnt come across as a likeable or trustworthy person.
