He's going to be one of the best keepers in the world in the next 2-3 years, this time last year, the press were slagging him off saying he wasn't good enough for us, that bullcrap, its fair to say its took him a while to get use to the high ball in the premier league not like in la liga when you don't see any crosses go into the box, he's only 22 years old, i can see him going to the world cup with Spain next year if he has another excellent season with us.
Turned out to be a very good keeper, so fair play to the lad. Still plenty of room for improvement before he's considered for the WC though, although he does have this year to make the squad - no way in a million years he'll be Spain's first choice by then, or come to think of it for a good few years yet - if ever.
I can see De Gea going as third choice. He's much much better than Valdes. Not that that's much if an accomplishment.
True - that's why he's more likely to play a part in 2018. Next year is too early, you have Casillas, Reina, and Valdes in front of him in the pecking order at this moment in time.
Yeah possibly - but you know what Spain are like, they like to take Barca players, or at least players that play in la liga. Hence, Reina in his prime didn't get much of an opportunity - when he probably deserved it.
Possibly. But for a couple of seasons Reina was equal if not better than Casillas, and playing in La Liga helped his cause. BTW - I'm not saying Reina is a better keeper than Casillas, just for a couple of seasons he out performed him.
Can definitely see De Gea going to the WC - Casillas, Valdes and Reina are getting on a bit, and all showed various stages of decline last season. The fact Barca seem to be looking to replace Valdes, and Reina has essentially been dumped by Liverpool, will count against them. One or two of those three will almost certainly have good enough seasons to be ahead of De Gea in the pecking order, and unless Casillas' arms fall off he'll almost certainly be number 1, but I'd be surprised if De Gea wasn't in the squad for the experience, and to look to the future.
It is a fair comment - Reina had a couple of his best seasons and Casillas was a bit ordinary at the time so Reina was arguably playing better. Reina was definitely superior in the games Liverpool played against Real in the CL in 08/09. Tho' I would have thought England's example (David James, Robert Green etc) would have shown the danger of picking the form keeper over one who is simply better.
