The problem is with all the money put under their noses these guys think they are invincible and untouchable.
They are payed a alful lot of money that most guys can only dream off.
The problem is when they become out of favour, don’t have the adulation of the public it gets too them.

The story also cites Danny Rose, both ex City players, coincidence?

Sorry mate, don't necessarily agree with that. Certain people are susceptible no matter what their circumstances. Over the years three former colleagues of mine, one I knew well, the other two were acquaintances, hung themselves. Outwardly, each was doing Ok, reasonable standard of living, apparently good family support, no obvious reason for their lives to end - especially in the way they did. Yet there was obviously something deeper and darker in them that was not apparent even to their nearest and dearest. Don't simply put it down to celebrity lifestyle and no longer having that adulation. Danny Rose is still "living the dream" - yet he has struggles of his own.

It is something that needs to be spoken about and its good that the likes of Cotterill and Rose have been prepared to open their souls about it.

It's sometimes the people you least expect

Anthony Bourdain for instance....the last person I could have imagined being suicidal.

The landlord of a local pub here topped himself last year. Only very close friends and family knew he was fighting demons. He was such an outwardly happy bloke with a great smile - only in his 40's - I'm proud to have known him and be able to have called him a friend. He was a great supporter of local bands and his pub had live music every Friday and Saturday night. Always made time to go around and chat to everyone.
I had no idea what was going on in his head - if only he could have forseen the number of people who turned out for his wake he would have known how special he was to so many people.

People in this situation seem to have an incredible "mask" that they can don at will, As I said above, often those closest have little or no realisation as to what is really going on and that is often the hardest thing to come to terms with.

I have no knowledge or experience of depression, I have lived many years and had many severe problems, some of my own making, the majority was life giving me a kick in the bollocks and I have dealt with it and survived to date, I have a big, rough and tumble mate, never seen him defeated by life, he was always better and succeeded more, achieved more wealth, more friends, had everything more than I ever did or could.

I was in a local pub with him recently, he just cracked, serious situation, tears, problems, the man is a wreck,I shared a taxi to his home, no one there, house up for sale, on his own, found out he is suffering from depression because of his personal circumstances, I can't give you an explanation, I can't get close to the guy, he is embarrassed at what happened.

Money he has got plenty but I don't think he can cope with the situation he is in, he has turned his back on all of us, he is having treatment I understand.

I prey this never happens to me I simply don't understand it but I know it is a terrible thing to happen.

From the little experience I have, it would seem that this "embarrassment", this perceived "failure", is what many people cannot come to terms with. Rather than get it - whatever "it" may be - out into the open early doors, so it can be dealt with, they hide or mask the problem which then festers, making the problem 10-fold, 100-fold, worse.

Wiz, I bet your mate has struggled for some time with his problems but didn't let on to anyone until he simply couldn't take it any more. I sincerely hope he is getting the help he needs and he subsequently returns to how you once knew him.

Thanks, I will keep contact if I'm allowed but I'm still in the dark and he is a good friend.
