With connolly's contract up at the end of the season I was just wondering what everyone thought about him and whether he should get given a new contract. I believe that when he is fit he is a really good player who could easily play in the championship. He is the kind of player that can change the game in one moment but the question is how many matches will he be fit for? I believe that we should give him a pay as you play deal and sign another striker for extra competition up front.
Have to get him properly assessed as he has broken down before, but he could do a job for us if the contract is right. He's a very good player who would be above league 1 if he wasn't injury prone.
Actually he is already on pay as you play contract it was negotiated last year and lasts a year. As much as I like the fella I don't think we can afford to give him another year (I don't mean monetary) especially if we go into the championship. We have to start to build for the push and eventual promotion to the premier. We have to have players that under normal circumstances will be available come what may. Holmes is another who we may not be able to keep. Realistically we cannot afford such luxuries we need as many fit and able players from the off.
Personally, i wouldn't keep him. He is a great player and everything but i think he is a liability due to his injuries. I think that we need another solid, quality striker up the top, maybe we could go for Mackail-Smith ? But there are lots of other options out there. Im sure Connolly will continue to impress and could make it to the championship level of football IF he stayed fit.
