David Beckham

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by Super G Ted'inho, Nov 20, 2012.

  1. So, he wants to quit yankland and test his self in a new challenge at the just 37 years young. Fair play to him since he clearly has the drive to play football because he obviously doesn't need the money, both he and Posh are mulit-millionaires in their own right.

For the record, I think he will go to France because he's wants a new challenge and he's not been there whereas he has dne it and won it in England, Italy and Spain <ok>

However, to the point of my article...

What do people think of him returning to the Premier League...? Do you reckon he could still cut it in this league...? Which team do you reckon he would suit...? And (for what its worth since it will never happen, nor do I particularly want it to), what would people think if he was to join us...?

    Sympathy post needed yet? <whistle>

If he joined us I'd be thinking I probably needed to give up crack and crystal meth cocktails <ok>

    Fifteen mins and counting <laugh>

Nah good luck to him. Massively over-rated but hard to argue with his record. At least he shows a love for the game unlike some other players who waste their talent. He's made the most of his and more.

Don't think he would cut it in the PL at his age and don't want him at Liverpool. I don't think he'll be much good in France either.

He's ****ing ****e and has been since about 2002.

If any team signs him it will be about the shirt sales and publicity rather than ability.

And if Redknapp takes over at QPR then he's probably thick enough to buy him and think that Beckham is still a 'triffic player'

  7. Since 2002 <doh>

He was one of the most wanted players when he left Real Madrid in 2007, plus he still did the business after that in loan appearances for Milan (albeit, the Italian game was severely lacking at the time too).

I'm surprised he hasn't considered coaching given he seems on a mission to create his own football team(up to 4 or 5 now?).

Not a bad word to say about Becks.

Put his heart and soul into playing for England and carried us for a good couple of years.

All an ambassador for us abroad and comes across as a nice bloke.

    Comfy boxers too!

Think he could still be capable of a cameo role but only for someone like United.

That would be a huge boost for them to have Scholes, Beckham and Giggs for one last hurragh.

    Can see it happening.

Probably changed now. With half when Jamie retires!

    Love Carragher though.

  16. It was earlier this season and was based on the players all teams had used after five or six league games. It was a bit surprising, a bit like the height statistic over the weekend <ok>

Thats why he went to America, then <ok>

  18. I think you need to do some looking back / research! It surprised the whole of football that he decided to go to America before his contract was up at Real resulting in Capello dropping him for not being committed before recalling him again because Beckham proved him wrong and the Real side needing him. Funnily enough, Real won the title that year too!

He could have gone to any top European side but he chose a different challenge. Most people was calling Beckham for following the money (£250k per week) at the time too!

There was no one else in for him. The only reason it was a big surprise in Britain was because people idolised him and were not willing to look at his obvious flaws and lack of mobility and overall ability to influence a game and still thought he was one of the best players in the world. Any team could've come in for him on a free transfer yet only LA did? Speaks volumes. He had a decent end to the season with Real, yes, but he was also a big reason they hadn't won a League in the other 3 seasons he was there. Was it a coincidence that the only time he wasn't a regular for Madrid was the season they won the league? Nope.

One of the most overrated players of all time. He has robbed a living from football. His set pieces and passing range were the only decent things about him - much like Charlie Adam.

The only reason he was wanted by the biggest clubs is because of the commercial revenue he would bring in. I read that the money he would generate alone (from merchandising etc) could pay half the wages for Real Madrid who have some of the biggest earners.

What I cannot argue with is his professionalism, desire to play football and also his patriotism. Hard to find players with his attitude. He also wasn't afraid to play abroad and broaden his experience.

Following on from Lucaaas's comment - Barca and Real were both in for Beckham at the same time. He was the number 1 target. Barca lost out and then signed Ronaldinho and the rest is history.

In terms of coming to Liverpool - I woudn't take him as a player. Maybe as a spokesman because for someone who is labelled 'stupid' and 'dim', he speaks very well to the media. He would help improve our image and bring in extra commerical revenue. But given his roots to Man Utd, I doubt it will happen.
