I’m just about old enough to remember seeing him play at Roker, but just too young to appreciate his ability. https://www.sunderlandecho.com/news...degenerative-disease-his-wife-reveals-1741222
That’s bad news he was a cracking defender a few of our players ended up at Man City about the same time as him.
Awful news, he was a superb player, this current ban on kids heading the ball the FA are introducing must have legs as there are too many sportsmen being diagnosed with this and MND.
Did a defender we got from Man City as a youngan go back again a few years later names gone out my head
WATSON FOR ENGLAND......WATSON FOR ENGLAND I saw him at Roker a few times before he went to Man City, great defender. ps He scored close to 30 goals as well for us.
Yeah we got Jeff Clarke and Tony Towers from City. Sad news indeed, Dave Watson was probably the best header of the ball that I have seen play for Sunderland.
The bigger the game the better Dave Watson played, he was the last of our cup winners to join City, Dennis was the first out of the traps, think Colback and your not far out, he couldnt wait, Watson was more loyal to Sunderland and Stokoe. He was tremendous in the 73 cup triumph, and a great player for England. Very sad news this.
He played at center forward for Sunderland, Bob Stokoe switched him to Center Half after he signed Vic Halom, Dave had played in both positions before Alan Brown signed him .
Sorry to hear the news about DW especially as I understand there is no cure. He was a class player. Could even tell that when he was playing for you lot. Not as good as C Hurley but from my father and his friends Charlie was supposed to be one of, if not the, best player you ever had so not bad for DW to be mentioned in the same sentence as him.
