Hi and welcome to General Chat, home of tentacle porn pictures, some of which you'll now witness with your own eyes
Not rightly so, moronic comments. Yes we created the game, doesn't mean we have the right to govern it for the rest of time.
This is the best bit of the article "In our country and in Germany, we have a culture," added Richards. "We call it, 'We would like to go for a pint', and that pint is a pint of beer. "It is our culture as much as your culture [in Qatar] is not drinking. There has to be a happy medium. "If you don't do something about it, you are starting to bury your head in the sand a little bit because it needs addressing. "You might be better off saying don't come. But a World Cup without England, Germany, the Dutch, Danes and Scandinavians. It's unthinkable." Richards later hurt his leg when he fell into a water feature. Maybe he had more than "a pint"
You can't put the genie back in the bottle and only play football in Britain, but I sympathise with his sentiment. What he really meant to say was 'Qatar is a stupid place to play a World Cup.'
The fact that he fell into a pool of water just after he made these comments is hilarious ! Also, does anybody else think Roy Hodgson might have found his long lost twin brother in Dave Richards...
Comments about the alcohol are ridiculous. Like we complain in England regarding councils not allowing the English flag etc. If you are another country you respect their laws and customs. As for the Hodgson comparison. He must be the one who got the mouth and Hodgson the footballing brain. Hodgson about 100% As said above he should have just said that Qatar as World Cup hosts (at this point in time) is a ridiculous choice.
FIFA stole football? Can't get my head around that one. Anyway the FA is the most influential organisation in FIFA by miles, so I wouldn't complain too loud. World Cup in Qatar? I think it will be good. Please keep abuse to 100 characters or less .
The biggest sponsors of the WC are Budweiser. Clearly the bung that FIFA got for staging the event in Qatar eclipses the bungs that they get from Anheuser Busch but that still leaves a potentially huge hole in their revenue if alcohol suppliers drop out of sponsorship. The Qatar WC could turn out to be a colossal own goal for FIFA in this respect. The "cultural differences" are simply a smokescreen for the real issue which is "We should have thought this through at a FIFA level before accepting bungs on a personal level".
He is also probably jealous of Sepp, as he and his Premier League minions are creating their own autocratic all powerful style of governing.
Portsmouth will be the tough one. By all rights it should be our easiest game, a team with next to no players at the bottom of the table... But every Pompey player knows their fans will not let them get away without showing total commitment in the derby match. I think we will win it one-nil, but it'll probably be a lot tighter than it would be if, say, Bristol City, were in that position.
Richards in his defence said today that "he's from Yorkshire and speaks bluntly and it was meant as a joke" Which if you put it through a translator actually means... "I'm a northern ****, who talks ****e and has never said anything funny in my life"
