In his five years at the club, Dave Jones improved our final league position every year. Despite transfer embargos, administration threats and having to sell our top players every year, DJ scraped and scrapped to bring in quality to the club for bargain fees. He gave us two consecutive Championship playoffs and an F.A. Cup final - something we hadn't experienced in eighty years!! All this on a minus budget. Because of his stabalising the club in it's Championship status, it meant CCFC were able to improve no end off the field with a new stadium and training infrastructure. He was at the core of helping make Cardiff an attractive proposition for big name players. Average attendences to City games have near doubled over his time here. Of course we all know all this. But across the internet, amoung media and bloggers, there is a shameful and widespread lack of class, appreciation and gratitude for what the man did for Cardiff. I know it's been done before. But quite frankly it needs doing again. This is a thread to say 'Cheers Dave. You did good.'
Seconded Double Dragon. I wonder if the vermin at WOL will take any notice? I doubt it, they will be too busy applauding each other for making up such witty (in their view) articles.
Arguably the most successful Championship manager in the last half dozen seasons . How he never got Cardiff into the Premier League really is a mystery to me & how he kept the team focused through the financial quagmire the last 2 seasons deserves it's own reward
Yes indeed, what Dave Jones did for the bluebirds during his time here was immense and should not be forgotten. He wasn't perfect but he did move us forward and brought us some great highs. Thanks you Dave Jones you are a legend and to date the best manager the bluebirds have had in my living memory.
Double-Dragon, Brilliant post. I agree 100%. On other boards you would think that we were relegated under DJ, there are too many so called Cardiff fans who have strange motives.
Completely agree with this Double Dragon! DJ worked wonders at times and although he had his faults he was the best manager we've had at the City in my lifetime. The way those idiots at Media Wales treated the guy is a disgrace and he deserved better than that!
Double Dragon! Not quite so sure this does need doing again to be honest. He served his time well with us and yes he helped raise our profile, but he had many faults (without going down the WOL approach of kicking a man when he's down) so lets not paint him as Saint David. I stuck with him until the last game but the writing was on the wall long before the season ended.Let's concentrate on the here and now I say.
ITIWRAN Please see SBFF's earlier thread including a link to a WOL article which makes snide comments about DJ 2 months after his departure. Were it not for their childish outburst I don't think we would be going down this route today. You are right though, it is much more positive to be looking at where we are now and where we are going. Pity WOL can't do that.
just my opinion But when the fans look back and consider the financial backdrop he had to work with especially at the start of his reign after the departure of sam hammam it will be realised that he did much better than good, he did a tremendous job, unfortunately the press did as much as they could to derail his efforts, and also the new owners felt it was time for a change, dave jones was and is a good manager,
he did well, but to say he didnt spend money is a myth. he signed many players on free transfers who were on big wages, but to be fair during his 5 year tenure we did move forwards as a club in many ways so good luck to the guy, would be interesting to see where he ends up next
I was sorry to see him go, but to be fair it probably was time for a change. Good luck where ever you end up DJ. Excellent thread btw, and DJs always welcome back for a pint.
Sorry SBFF, it was poorly worded, not directed at you but at the WOL muppetts and their article within the link you posted - I have amended the comment. Apologies for any confusion - 1 glass of wine too many on a warm Sunday afternoon. Note to self: Double check posts before posting!!!
I totally agree, the thing is he just managed to do with Wolves what he failed to do for us. I applaud his efforts and we move on!
Thank him for what he's done, for the legacy of the facilities and infrastructure he's left behind and for the highs and lows the teams he assembled gave us. Now lets move on to the team that Malky builds. If the youngsters coming through are part of that, so much the better.
Agree. Now's the time to move on. But there is no call for, or any class in DJ bashing anymore. Far more good memories than bad.
DJ thanks for the memories, my son has grown up expecting city to win and been to Wembley 3 times. He is fifteen in November and can only remember good times at Ninian Park and the CCS. He has not had to suffer the pain of a relegation season and I will always thank DJ for the work he did for us.
