I wonder what the stato's made of Bellingham's performance for England tonight?

To my untutored eye he was our best player on the pitch (18 years old?).

Grealish when he came on also made a difference... just IMHO of course.

If anyone is still interested, here's another article on Charles Reep. This one goes into more depth about criticism of his conclusions. Interesting that he thought that direct football was more appealing to the spectator than a possession game. Charles Hughes thought it was amateurish.

As someone who likes detail, I'd also like to point that the photo in the article that is captioned as being a game between Budapest Honved and Wolves in 1954 is actually a photo of the Hungarian national team against the Soviet Union, possibly from 1954 but certainly before 1956 because Puskas is in the picture and he defected in 1956.

If the stat is to measure ‘Did the goal keeper have to make a save to prevent a goal?’ it’s spectacular and hugely entertaining but in terms of that statistic not that much different to a shank ballooning off towards the corner flag.

Maybe there should be a stat for a shot that resulted in a second opportunity from the rebound off woodwork or a block by defender?
