I always though he was potentially better than Elliott, as he had the athleticism to produce the spectacular, world class save. 1st choice keeper at Motherwell, riding high in 3rd place in the SPL, her's definitely one who got away :-(
Many rated him better than Elliot, I didn't but did think he was great and loved having him. The club treated him like crap so good on him, hope he makes his Ireland debut soon, he's been in their squad a number of times but is yet to make an appearance.
I remember his league debut(?) at Anfield in our last PL game (for a couple more years anyway!), where he pulled off one really amazing save, as he's incredibly athletic. I guess the argument the other way, would be that Elliot was perhaps a more solid alrounder, but it'll be interesting to see how their careers progress. Just gutting to produce 2 good keepers, and have neither playing for you now.
I rated Elliot higher during our first campaign in league one- but towards the end Randolph changed that. Think he went down to 3rd choice as when he was dating a saturday(lucky boy), there was a concern about weight gained and off field distractions. That said, I believe this was Pardews thoughts.
Completely mismanaged by Parky. Parachuted Ikeme in when Elliott got injured and kept Randolph on the bench. What's the use in telling a player to train hard to make sure you're ready when needed and then doing that? No wonder he left!
It was Randolph's decision to leave, he was offered decent terms. Most fans wanted Elliot as the No 1 though along with many I thought Randolph was the better of the two. Randolph wanted to be the No 1 but would always be behind Elliot in the pecking order, the same way as Sullivan is now behind Hamer.
Randolph got into the 1st team before Elliott, most people would have put him as the brighter prospect, but Rob got his chance and took it. Elliott was by no means then the guaranteed No 1 in the way the likes of Bolder and Deano were though, until the bizarre Ikeme episode that completely undermined Randolph. I'm trying to imagine a scenario where Bob Bolder got injured, and instead of Salmon playing, another keeper came in and played instead, but can't... Similarly, Hamer may have the gloves, but a few mistakes and I'm sure Sullivan will get his chance. I presume Sullivan will play next week in the cup.
Randolph's save from Jermaine Beckford's header in the 1-0 win at home to Leeds was pretty special. Good luck to him, if we'd had kept him someone else would have signed him by now, he's too good for League 1.
Sorry guys but yet another prime example of Parkys total lack of man management skills. He did however manage a bottle of Evian very well.
One that got away, like Robbie Elliot but Randolph was a better prospect. Such a shambles that he was not given a real chance, wish him all the best up there.
Agreed Franco, seen him throw some in in the championship as well this season, can't remember who he was playing for though.
The main reason I disliked Mr Parkinson so much was the way he treated Darren, anybody who watched him come up through the U18's with Robbie knew they were both very good keepers. It looks as if Darren has progressed more than Robbie.
